Hangar Camping at the Airport !

Hangar Camping at the Airport !
Well, looks like the Mayans only missed the apocalypse by a few days! If the Weather Channel is calling it right, we got us a World-Ending Blizzard bearing down on us!
So...rather than being trapped on the hill, I locked down the Skunk Works, loaded up the Assault Van with adequate supplies, and hoofed it to the airport for a night, or maybe two.
We got the airport manager, my boss, the airport maintenance boss, me, and a couple cohorts running around here. There's popcorn popping and lots of hooting going on. Sort of a Blizzard version of a Gulf Hurricane Party.
My buds are gonna have to make due sleeping on couches (when they're not driving plow and spreader trucks) while I shall be retiring to the luxurious accommodations of my air mattress-equipped cargo van...unless I get drafted into some spreader-truck driving.
Above all, we have plenty of coffee ! It's a good night to not go anywhere !

Man, I thought the storm was more south of you, guess not. It bitter cold here in Tuttle OK and we had snow earlier, right now it's just crazy windy! Really, in OK it's windy LOL.
My chickens are spending their first cold night in the coop. Hope they fare ok as they are kinda young still. I have no way of putting heat out there.
Stay warm Kim, hope the Skunk Works still exists upon your return.

Re: Hangar Camping at the Airport !
We've got plenty of wind and wind and wind and rain on this side of the river. According to the weather gurus, we may end up on the eastern edge of the snow. I'm prepped for the snow, but the wind over the past 3 years has blown just about everything off the house that can be blown away. I've got stuff loose from the wind storms from last week --- this one may finish it off.
I hope you have your van parked in the hanger -- temps and weather look pretty nasty over there.

Can you run a drop cord with a 100 watt light bulb out there and put it under the coop?cribbs74 wrote:...My chickens are spending their first cold night in the coop. Hope they fare ok as they are kinda young still. I have no way of putting heat out there....

I still have a Couple brooder lamps, but I think the blowing snow would crack the bulb. Maybe I can hang it inside somehow.

And...we survived. Slept deep in the van with nobody kicking me out to move a plane or drive a truck. Looks like there is almost as much snow on the side of our buildings as on the ground.
I should have some dramatic photos...somewhere past my third cup of coffee...and maybe a shower...

I love the way you guys Take it in your stride
And just get on with it Kim.

Re: Hangar Camping at the Airport !
Thanks John...the guys' first priority is the ramp, then the runways, so that pilots of Medical Helicopters can land with some visual clues rather than a blank white sheet of snow. We probably won't see many today, but have to keep it all ready just in case.
It isn't as bad as our local, breathless Weather Girl predicted, and I was able to hoof it home to check on stuff here. Still, better a less-than-accurate call in this direction, rather than the horrendous 3-foot + blast we got in 1979 when forecasters were predicting "flurries and some light accumulation"!
Right now, the thing is this blessed wind !!!!!!!!!!
