Airport Security......

Airport Security......
Headed back to OKC today. Put my carry on through a scanner and sure enough I was tagged for a sweep.
TSA agent jams his wand into my bag and snaps the wing of my queen bee then rifles around a bit and pulls out a little package I am sending to Australia. What's inside the package? A Testors Pipe Bomb...........
Anyway they cleared me and I'm not upset as they are just doing their job. Just thought it was funny. Except the snapped wing, I'm not laughing about that.

I hope you got an apology for the snapped wing!
I guess to an untrained eye the pipebomb must look a bit like a pipe of some sort...

I didn't realize he snapped it until I got my bag back. Beside it snapped at the joints so it's an easy fix.

Oh that's lucky, it really would have sucked if he put his whole hand through the wing or something!cribbs74 wrote:nitroairplane wrote:I hope you got an apology for the snapped wing!

Did it pull the wing from the fuse? Mine has broken there quite often.

No, I had it in Assembled pieces to keep it safe. Fat lot of good that did me.

Re: Airport Security......
I attached the wing after I covered it. Made it a lot easier.

Carbon fiber, it's very stiff and very light and great for strengthening wings and other things on model airplanes, it's amazing!cribbs74 wrote:nitroairplane wrote:I see some CF rod in you and Ron's future....Godsey3.0 wrote:Did it pull the wing from the fuse? Mine has broken there quite often.

If he asked you what the engine was, I trust you didn't say "Oh, it's a pipe bomb!"

Tell the TSA not to worry. It's the kind of pipe bomb that very few people could ever get to work!

Off hand, I can't remember Wen Mac's official designation, they are known as "Pipe Bombs" because the crankcase looks like a bit of pipe. they were used exclusively in Wen Mac's plastic control liners, not having any proper mountings you can't fit them in anything else.

Yep, not a great photo, bad lighting. We spoke briefly and she told me she would rather be out flying than hanging from the ceiling.....I agreed.Ivanhoe wrote:Curtis Jenny?

Something strikes me as not quite right about that Jenny, somehow the engine/radiator/ prop don't look right, unless it's the angle of the photo?

Re: Airport Security......
Curtiss (two s's) Jennny's were built in abundance during the WWI era. Following the war they were surplused and became the workhorse of the "barnstorming" pilots than made aviation popular with the public which took up a fascination with flight.
Then came Charles A. Lindburgh trans-Atlantic flight in 1927........................
It was indeed "The Golden Age of Aviation".
