Did you fly for the military in a previous life?

remember if you bend the wire struts forward so tires are below prop (probably the best fix) you will change the CG forward

Thanks Very Happy Glad you are enjoying it. I wasn't sure people would enjoy my ridiculous details.

Never flew for the military, but I was a cryptologist and linguist in the Navy.

I'm thinking of moving the mount back inside the cheeks in hopes of giving a bit more support... but I'm still puzzling.

Moving the gear mounting aft is not going to gain you much over just bending the wire up close to the motor mount so the wheels are about an inch forward of current position. As they are right now any deflection aft by wire flex induces nose over...moving wheels forward reduces this tendency

Ummmm, minor setback.

Went flying a couple days ago, and on the second flight, I got a wild hair. So, I decided to try to loop her (no one else was there, but I heard myself say, "Hey, watch this"). Let's just say the loop looked like a big comma with it's tail firmly embedded into the ground. Tore off the whole front of the fuse from the cg forward. Just goes to show: straight and level guys should leave the aerobatics to professionals.

Oh well, she was an experiment with several imperfections that will be eliminated on the "T-5 Mark II: The Resurrection".

Aw man, sorry to hear about that. Don't feel too bad, I slagged plenty of balsa learning to do loops. And one day you'll say like I did, Now, what the hell was so hard about that anyway.

Ditto...hope it back together quickly. Don't be chased off from stunts...there are plans here somewhere for some cheap, quick to build, and VERY stunt-capable planes that you could experiment with...

I finally got comfortable with basic aerobatics with a Stuntman23. It's indestructible when built with an old style built-up engine mount. Well, the rear fuse will bust, but saw it off short when you fix it. After you do that it will stunt even better and never break again.

Then after I got a plane with real wings, it was a dream to fly. But I still hit the ground now and then. I have two very light Baby Flite Streaks that don't seem to mind occasionally clobbering the ground. Usually it's a belly buster on an excessively wide loop. But I did recently nose in one of them at full speed with no damage.

Fear not! I am undeterred. As I said, there were several flaws in that model that actually made me more willing to make it my aerobatic sacrificial lamb. She will be rebuilt eventually. Right now I'm playing with my just finished Blackhawk Raven.

Welcome to the club!

Just epoxy her up and go again. If you search through my old posts you will see many aftermath photos. It's all part of the game!

Following two CFIT (Controlled Flight Into Terrain) incidents which resulted in de-mounting the engine twice and the loss of horizontal stab, elevator, and rudders, I have beefed her up. The fuse has been stiffened. and she now has a larger, stouter stab and elevator. She sure ain't as cute as she was, but each successive excursion is teaching me a bunch.

You should always use an IFR approach even in VFR conditions. Keep an eye on the weight when beefing things up. Keep on flying!!!!

My son made an r/c plane out of corrugated (box) cardboard stuck together with masking tape. It flew ok. There's video of it on YouTube somewhere, but I can't find it right now.

Flyjsh...so sorry to encourage further hijack but I missed SD's note back on page one of this thread

I also put a glow engine on a Cedar shingle and flew it... quite amazed at the fun we had with a super simple idea...not too much different from hanging a .049 from a rag and launching...much of todays so called 3D flying is born from learning that over power and no human pilot means anything can "FLY"
