If they are for sale you can probably find it on the Bay. But I don't recall ever having seen one. If you have a venturi with the screen groove, I would try some of the finest screens you can get for household spigot aireators and try to cut them to size. The original ones are sized so that if you form it into a slight dome over the tip of your pinky, you can place it into the venturi opening with the concave side down, then press until it inverts. It's then locked into the groove.

If you want a quicker fix, use some women's nylon hose and snap it over the venturi with an orthodontic rubber band. Or you can get cute little rubber bands for hair, at Dollar General, that are about 1/2" in diameter and double it. Ugly, but functional.

I think the screen was added around 1973. They ran just fine before that. If you are trying to keep it original then you could find one on Ebay as suggested. You could also just turn down the lip and use it as is.

Has anyone tried the nylon hose yet?

I would be very carefull with it: it is not rigid and can distort by the air flow. It is after all a resistance.

I knew a guy who put a nylon hose over the carburettor of his car as an air filter. The hose was sucked in the intake manifold and was wrapped around the valves. He got himself a nice job that day.

I tried this on my F1 Car with kb backplate. It is fixed between the firewall and Backplate-
It works fine!

It's a pretty common practice with the precision stunt crowd, layering it on to adjust the vacuum for fuel draw. At least they are the ones that told me about it when I was having fuel feed problems with my Shoestring. I suppose if it got sucked in, it wouldn't go very far or hurt anything. It would shut down as soon as it clogged the crankshaft bore.

tee dee 051 Empty Note from the future... Shoulda listened to Lieven!

Post  RknRusty Sat Nov 16, 2013 3:12 am

And I got burned:
RknRusty in a future thread wrote:Yeah, Lieven, and I pooh poohed your warning and did it anyway. See what I got for that! Actually I did do it again with waxed dental floss to hold it on. But a real snap on air filter is a better idea for restricting the flow. and you can block it off more safely if needed.

Rusty
Luckily I extracted it with hemostats and no damage was done.
