Can anyone identify this?

Looks like a Berkley kit to me. The engine is a McCoy .15 I think. Kinda strange though as the case splits and it's rear intake. Trying to identify it for a friend.

That is definitely a Guillows Trainer. We have a Guillows Trixter Trainer. Looks very similar. Only difference I can tell is the canopy. Ours is extremely heavy. A Marz 2.5cc Diesel flies it. Barely. A 15 Magnum XLS is even worse. Neither engines could stunt it in any way. It handles wind surprisingly well. Good trainer. Can take a beating.

The engine is a McCoy .19.

The Mccoy is a Sportsman .19 angled rear intake. The engine overall is not very powerful. They really didn't make a whole lot of power and the quality was fair. Ken

Cool plane. I had one that looked similar to that, but it was a Testors kit called a Freshman.

I believe you are correct. The Freshman had a profile fuselage and a solid wing. The Sophomore had a profile fuselage and a built-up wing. There were also the Junior and Senior with built-up fuselages. Each came in several sizes starting with the "9" that was sized for the McCoy .09 engine.

Yep the Freshman was designed for the McCoy "9" engine which (IIRC) was an .098

Here are a couple of McCoy .098's. I believe the red tank belongs on an OK Cub though. I bought them both used.

I was lucky to have known Nate Bast, the guy the designed the 'Freshman' series planes, the guy designed a lot of different planes. Here's his early 80's R/C pattern ship the 'Groover', first plane I'd seen do knife edge loops. Notice the canopy...looks very much like the early 'Freshman' planes.
