Anyone know where I could find one? Doesn't seem to be any out there. Thanks

Re: .010 starter spring
If you do a "search" there was a recent thread on the very subject of the source of a Cox TD .010 starter spring.
I have one but it is NFS.

Thanks Super Dave. I will remember to do a search next time. I contacted ex model engines so we shall see. Making a spring sounds feasable and simple as well.

I didn't intend to "brush off" your inquiry but there is a pretty through discussion on a previous thread by speerman. In that thread I offered to be of assistance to anyone building their own spring. I could shoot you a pix of mine if that would be helpful.

Super Dave,
No offense taken, you led me to the right area. Yes, i would be interested in a picture mostly so I know the number of wraps and where to make the bends. What I woild most need to know is the inner diameter of the spring. That way I can find the correct diameter dowel rod. Thanks very much.

Ron:
Since I am "digitally deprived" I'll need to have a pix taken and sent by my son which may take a week or so. Realize that the Cox .010 "snap starter is unlike other Cox starters as it loops around the prop and does NOT use a plastic drive plate.
Viewed front the front of the crank, the spring makes seven complete loops before it attaches to the TD .010's venturi with a small loop on the end. (The loop fits onto a protrusion on the plastic venturi) The spring could be formed using a 7/16" hardwood dowel and the wraps made in a CCW direction.
But without a picture this may be difficult for you to visualize. Until I get you the pix you can obtain the dowel and spring wire to practice making the wraps. It might be best to "practice" using soft wire initially and will require some patience and experimentation before using the actual spring wire which would be much more difficult to bend correctly.
But look on the bright side, if you get good at this you may be the world's only after-market supplier of Cox TD .010 starter springs!
(BTW, My TD .010 is NIB complete with instructions, Cox wrench and spare props)

Re: .010 starter spring
Super Dave,
No hurry, I contacted Matt from Ex model engines and placed one on order. Think it may have been his last one. So knowing that I will probably go ahead and fabricate a few. It may help someone out down the road and keep a spare on hand for me. Not sure if the pic you are going to provide is from your NIB .010, but if it is it will prob be a good example. Thanks for the help.

Re: .010 starter spring
Man, what am I thinking! I just ordered an original one!!!!! I can use it as a template. My brain is fried. I am a Navaids tech and spent the entire week on the runway fixing an ILS in Alabama. Nothing but problems to sort through. Anyway what I am saying is I no longer need a picture. I do however appreciate the help in locating one.

Keep me posted on the starter spring from EX Engines. It would be better to fab from an actual example than a picture. I suspect that winding spring wire would be a little difficult unless the right equipment was used.

I suppose this is a little more involved than I originally anticipated. If I buy the wire already prepared as spring steel than I won't have to worry about annealing temps oil vs water quenching and proper carbon/steel content of the metal I am working. 10 guage steel spring steel is pretty thin so I suppose I will source some and give it a try. Worst case I produce a product only useable for me. If I can rig a device that allows me to spin the wraps under tension than it should be doable providing I can re-create the the loops and open bends.

Thank you, the real thing will give me the best visual, but pictures always help. It doesn't look difficult or intricate, time will tell. If anything you at least showed me a pic of yet another cool .010.
