Re: how to remove this engine!!
I would try removing the prop/spinner. It looks like the cowling was made to be removed. It could be screwed into the bearers. Once you pull the spinner off you may see some screws.

I'm curious about the plane. I see a Fox .36X hidden in there and I bet that it moves out. On another note, I wouldn't run that prop with that spinner unless the spinner gullets were filed waaaay out. That would easily cut through the wood prop and allow the blades to come flying off without warning.

Pull the engine and start de-oiling. Use cornstarch mixed with alcohol (rubbing or denatured) to make a wet paste and apply. Let sit in a ventilated area till dry, dispose of the now oily cornstarch, repeat till the desired results are achieved. Use well thinned clear dope to stabilize any extra soft areas that might exist after 5 or so rounds of de-oiling. It also helps to apply some alcohol before applying the paste.
Messy, yes.
Saves the airplane, most likely.

Remember any tool you use should fit the application properly and DON'T use tools like pilers that are very sure to cause damage.
Tools are like words. Just the right one can make a HUGE difference in the result.

Re: how to remove this engine!!
The wood. The alcohol will float the oil out of the wood and the corn starch will absorb and hold the oil. Since the oil ends up more or less evenly distributed through the alcohol, several re-applications will be necessary to reduce the oil saturation in the wood. The first couple rounds should have the most effect.getback wrote:getback wrote:got a question about the cornstarch and alcohol mix ,is that for the plane or engine or both never used this concocktion before . thanks as always!!pkrankow wrote:Pull the engine and start de-oiling.
