Cox Engine of The Month
Three questions.
Three questions.
Three questions, just out of curiosity. First, I read somewhere that putting a Medallion .049 carb body (yeah, I know, venturi body) on a TD.049 made for a smoother running engine. Has anyone here ever tried it, or know if this is a fact?
Second, is the spray bar on a Medallion .049 the same as on a Medallion .09?
Third, has anyone ever tried putting a .074 Queen Bee carb on a Medallion .09? I have an eBay special .09 that needs a new carb body, and thought I might experiment with it.
The Questionable Mark

Re: Three questions.
Mark,
I can answer 2 of those.
The medallion body will not make the TD any smoother, but it will allow the engine to pull fuel more efficiently due to the smaller diameter venturi opening.
The .09 spray bar is larger.
I don't think the queen bee carb to medallion is even possible. Due to the carb being held on by screws. I'll let someone else answer that.

Any idea of the power loss using the Medallion venturi?

Re: Three questions.
The 3rd chart down has the power curves for the TD 09 vs the Medallion. Although the Nitro content is different between the 2 tests it will give you a general idea of the difference.

Probably some, I have never done the conversion myself, but I can say a bog standard medallion will pull a moderately sized 1/2a very well. So add in the extra power of the TD crank and #4 cylinder then it will do just fine.
