Fired up a new babe bee engine today. Ran 3 tanks of fuel through it. Ran engine rich for break in. Noticed a lot of fuel running out exhaust ports, i figured it was because it was running rich. filled tank a 4th time, started engine about 4 turns out on needle. Then i turned needle in until she was screaming (approx 2 turns out). Still notice some fuel coming out exhaust ports and a slight mist being thrown back by the prop. Is this normal for these engines, and does 2 turns out sound about right for the sweet spot?? Also, what is the approx running time on a tank of fuel for these engines, i think it 5cc tank

Define new. I have taken apart new babe bee engines from the 70-80s to find the tank to backplate venturi gasket to be dried out and hard. This could be the source of the extra fuel leaking in.

Unburnt oil passes out the exhaust while the engine runs. It is important bdcause it takes heat with tge oil, and these engines require a high oil load due to the ball socket for the piston to connecting rod.

I think you are seeing a normal operation oil. Use a white fresh paper towel and wipe the engine exhaust immediately after stopping. Look and smell. It should be honey colored instead of clear or fuel colored, and have no methanol smell.. it probably has an exhaust smell.

There can be quite a buildup of oil on the side of the engine while bench running. This naturally goes all over in the air.

Kim, and a large number of other Cox Fanatics refer to these 2 stroke model engines affectionately as “ Castor Slingers”. Cause that’s what they do!

Yes if set up correctly with the pick up tube / for C/L put tube to the outside of the circle direction so it can pick up all the fuel when centrifugal force kicks in / R/C tube to the bottom , i don't change it for bench runs though . Laughing
