Thanks, As a newby here it's not my place to criticize but I read the original post and thought it not appropriate for this forum.

I'm not a prude, and after spending 20 years in the Navy I have heard and probably said it all. I just like taking a vacation from it while enjoying these discussions.

Not much of a problem, maybe a little over exuberance at getting back together with good friends. Smile

Mad Work in progress:

Post  coxaddicted Fri Oct 24, 2014 6:08 pm

Work in progress:

Today I received the Kyosho Cox car. It needs some tender and care...
Not a shelf queen at all - but for me it is a little gem...

At first I dissassembled everything because the engine was gummed....

coxaddicted back again!!!!! New Cars new experience check it out!!! Dscf8415

But hey... Smoking

I have had a complete engine on spare...

It was a F1 Kyosho Cox Car engine - this engine has a smaller pilot gear shaft than the mini or beetle. So I fixed the other pilot shaft on the F1 engine and .... with some fuel it starts in my hand... very reliable engine...

I will need a couple of days to fit the engine and the electric. Hope I will get this old herbie to run, it is out of service since 20 years Rolling Eyes

Hello Guys,

a little update on my beetle project. After re-assembling, i noticed that the spring starter system is does not work correctly. The strap is hanging around at some point. No chance for the starter spring to turn the engine over fast enough.

I decided now, to convert the engine with a ,,twist starting'' system. I mounted a clutchbell with a one-way-bearing. If you twist the tires in drive direction, the engine will be turned over. I hope this will work better for the starting procedure than the messy pull strap system.

The pre-owner painted the lexan body from the outside, the result is a very poor paint-job. I thought about painting it matte black but I had another idea. The VW Beetle (it is called Käfer in my country) has already some miles on the speedo so I decide to give it an ,,aged'' look:

Here is another picture of the chassis, it is a ,,chopped'' Beetle:

At the moment I am revising the original cox - glowhead. I would like to use ordinary glow plugs, in order to ,,play'' with colder plugs to tune the engine better in the ,,middle'' revs.

The spring starter really like hell Mad I'm still stock in this part.also i realized once engine assembled on chassis it become hard to priming the engine, maybe need more test.

Thank you!

In the meantime, the rear lights we're painted in clear red. Maybe I will spend this car some Led's on the front and Taillights.

Regarding priming procedure on this special cox engine:

Open the needle valve some more turns (around 7-Cool before pumping the fuel into the engine. Than pump until the fuel is visible at the screen in front of the carburator (immediately stop pumping, turn the needle valve completely in - be careful; and than turn out the n.v. 3 turns again and try starting). With only 3 turns opened needle valve, it is nearly impossible to pump the fuel into the carburator.

I like the remote connection for lighting the plug. I did that once with an on-board battery and micro toggle switch. I used a tiny E-clip soldered to the wire for attaching to the center electrode.

Do you have a photo showing your ignition wiring/connectors in detail?

There's a recent thread here https://www.coxengineforum.com/t7476-after-market-plug#94288 with useful information on glow-plug options.

What type of throttle does it have?

Hello Roddie,

the remote control glow driver is designed by Kyosho. There are just two screws/bolts mounted into the chassis which are connected with the wires. For starting, you will clip a external battery holder (also specially designed by Kyosho for the cox engines 1,5v currency) with ordinary croco-clamps onto the screws outside the chassis.

The complete throttle-exhaust is also designed by Kyosho (maybe a joint venture with cox - I don't know exactly). It works very good. From my point of view one of the best throttles ever made for the cox engine. The muffler is really quit. Nevertheless, the F1 car is a real performer and really fast for such a small engine (remember the wheigt ratio of this car). The Beetle should run also goo,d cause it is much lighter than the F1 car. Okay, compared to the gtp Nissan and Stocker it is a slowly duck but much more reliable.
