This is my Rossi R15 off my old Sig shoe string I can't remember if its a Mk1 or Mk2. I think it's a Mk1 since it has a glow button instead of a plug but I may be wrong. All I know is it used to down right scream lol! Hope you enjoy (Bandit)

My Rossi R15 speed Mk1 or Mk2? Empty Re: My Rossi R15 speed Mk1 or Mk2?

One of our club members had a Rossi powered speed plane at our 1/2A Day meeting last month. I don't know what size engine, not 1/2A, but I got tasked with cranking it while he stood in the pilot circle and someone else held it to launch. If I'd known what I was getting into I would have worn my ear phones. It had to be spun with an electric motor to crank. When it lit off, it was the loudest damn engine i have ever heard. When it took off and unloaded, he was flying it with both hands and all his weight on his heels. I couldn't get away fast enough to suit me. It looked like 60' solid lines and I roughly counted lap times at less than 2 seconds. I mean it was flat hauling ass.

Yup you ain't kidding, mine wasn't that fast but it was still exciting and it pulled hard. The pipe i have with this engine is of the resonator type and is mega loud as you said. It tachs over 28k in the rpm bracket and it's very hard to start by hand due to the size of the prop and timing so an electric starter is required. anyway this engine hasn't been flown in 10 years because of the club i belonged to at the time banned these due to noise complaints. I may do a tach run in the future. I would like to hear it run again Smile (Bandit)

Your ROSSI is a MK2. I have several of them in NORMALE tune I use in Free Flight models. Got my first MK2 in 1973.
Yours if you are using a pipe is speed tuned and needs the pipe to run properly.
What fuel are you using, and what number heads are you using?

They flick start without a problem, but many people get a shock when they fire and run. I have a flight box with a starter for an instant start. Mine turn 28+ on the ground.

Nice Smile It's been 10 years since I've run it but I do know at the last time It ran, it had a #2 head as far as fuel If i remember correctly it was FAI or 0% with a castor/synth. oil package. We never flew for official comp just fun events. untill we had to stop that was.

Number 2 head is good with straight FAI fuel......80% Methanol, 20% Castor. Would not go along with synthetic, just straight castor.

I run mine exactly as that with no shims under the head.

If you run nitro in it you will need a couple of shims to lower the compression and play with heads. Flush it out well when finished with WD40, then plenty of normal engine oil in the exhaust and intake turning it over a once or twice.

Heads are often on eBay if you run short. Rear bearing I hope is smooth as they are rarer that rocking horse droppings.

Mine have been touched up inside with the mighty Dremel.........But you need to take care doing that and know what you are doing. I use C/F 7 X 3 props.

About the fuel, we had to run the fuel provided so I used to mix a little extra castor in, I just made sure to shake it up good before each use to make sure it stayed mixed. The bearings are new as of the last run and are silky smooth so those are good.

I don't plan on doing any real competition with it so while I can (I've done port work on car engines like Novarossi, Picco and several 1/5 scale engines) I don't intend on doing any port work on it since I don't see any reason for it. It's more than fast enough for what I would be doing anyway LoL

Thanks for the advice and help man Smile and I might just build another shoestring to put it on. Smile
