I ordered up a Red Arrow .049 From EX Model Engines and it just came in the mail today and does it look sharp! I plan on doing a static run soon after I get it broken in. This engine is going on my new 1/2A skyray as soon as I get it built. Can't wait! Smile

It definitely looks nice.. but I don't see any fuel-fill/vent nipples.. Shocked Is that a photo from Matt's site.. or is that your engine?

It's mine just got it in, hasn't had a drop of fuel put through it yet and the fuel nipple and vent are on the other side of the needle sorry I should of turned the engine around. I put it on a white background to get the colors to show up better and didn't realize that this pic closely resembled the one on his site sorry for the confusion (Bandit)

Is the "Red Arrow" a high performance unit or does it just run standard gear? It looks as if it has open exhaust ports from what I can make out, so what cylinder does it run? Is it one of those that has been modified for SPI?

I haven't run it yet so I don't have any figures on it performance wise but it has a #1 cylinder with SPI, standard compression head though. I'll have some figures on it as soon as my test stand comes in and I get it broken-in (Bandit)

Rod, I was wondering the same thing. I compared engines on Matt's website. It says it has a #1 cylinder which would be a pre-96 BW. It also says it has SPI, so it must be a NOS Cox cylinder with a standard long skirted piston. The RPM rating is up to 17.5k.

Then on the same page he has the Taipan Serpent, and it has a new Tee Dee cylinder converted from a Surestart, open exhaust and lowered ports for SPI with a standard piston. Also has the stunt tank, Merlin head and Killer Bee crankshaft. The RPM rating is up to 20k.

Maybe the limited availability of NOS #1 cylinders is the reason it's out of stock now. But he does have NOS #1s in stock for $14.95.

And the Bandit posted while I was writing this. In any case, I like it. For the price I would choose it over the Serpent, plug the vent for inverted flying and add a merlin head. It should compete closely with the Serpent, if not outrun it. You just have to use a needle on the syringe to fill the tank with a plugged vent.

After you mentioned this, I took a closer look at the engine and you are correct it has a stamped #1 BW cylinder. I have a few OEM TD heads so once I get er boken-in I'm going to try one and do an RPM pull on it and see what it does compared to the standard one. This is gonna be interesting and sorry for breaking in front of ya. (Bandit)
