Hello,  I am new to this forum and have been out of the hobby for about 20 years. I just purchased a Thimble Drome Prop Rod car by Cox with the 049 engine, of which I have 3 airplanes at home with that engine.

What fuel do you use now that Thimble Drome fuel by Cox is no longer available? Babe Bee .049

I like Sig Champion Fuel with 25% Nitro.  You can purchase it from the SIG website.  It is very reasonable.  You can also follow this link for a discussion of the cox super power fuel.  I will try that with my next fuel purchase.  It is suppose to be very good now.  Just be sure you get the new fuel, and not the old fuel.  Andy

Hi nick3071 Welcome to the forum!! Smile
Andy hit the nail right on the head
The most popular is Sig Champion 25% followed by the new Cox Super Power fuel. I have tried the fuel and like it so far.
take care! (Bandit)

Back when i used race 1/2a pylon Sig was most used, it seemed to work great, but if i was buying fuel i'd try the new formula Hobbico Cox fuel, look at the results of the Tach Race...wow!

LOL Fuel

Thanks guys for the info on the fuel to use. After I made the post I was looking at the Sig Website. Wondering if Hazel Sig is still alive and I see the company has new owners and still going strong. Thanks again.

Another good reason to try the newly re-formulated Cox (Hobbico) Super-Fuel is that you can be assured that it is FRESH! I've been a dedicated Sig Champion 25/35 user over the years.. but I can't imagine that Sig sells huge volumes of it. I will still buy Sig fuel.. but only through Sig. Buying the Sig 1/2A fuel from a hobby shop is a gamble; as they may have had it on the shelf for years. I'm always surprised that all of the hobby retailers I've visited, have their model fuel displayed out in the open. It should be kept away from light-sources if it's in a translucent plastic bottle where you can see the fuel contained.. and most that I have seen are packaged this way.

I think you could look at that fuel, especially the 35% and the cold damp air for this years high RPM readings!

LOL Cox Fuel

Post  nick3071 Wed Feb 11, 2015 8:20 am

Yes, I thought that was great too the way they highlighted the endorsement of this fuel by the Forum.
Thank you everyone for your input on this very helpful to say the least.

Welcome Nick, to the friendliest forum on the interwebs.
Just remember, with respect to fuel for your Cox engines, ALWAYS use fuel with 20% total oil content, with AT LEAST 50% of the oil being castor oil. DON'T EVER be tempted to use fuel with 100% synthetic oil.

Cheers
