Best fuel for FRV engines??

Best fuel for FRV engines??
I have read that perhaps lower nitro content fuels may be best for the Wen's and other non reed engines. I have used the 20% fuel in a couple of my Cox reedies with mixed results, so I bought the 25% Cox fuel but haven't tried it yet, looking to find the new 35% Cox fuel soon.
It occured to me that I have never ran a Wen/Ok Cub/Testors FRV engine before - ever... . so im' wondering which would be my better choice between the two for that application?

Re: Best fuel for FRV engines??
I don't think 20% to 25% nitro will make a big difference, anything in that ballpark should be good. I think the oil is more critical in the Wen-Mac and Cubs dues to the poorer tolerances of piston/cylinder. The oil percent, mostly caster should be in the mid twenties.
Re: Best fuel for FRV engines??
I've run my testors/McCoy rotor valve 049 engines on the Cox fuel the old and new with no problems. I would be careful with that Sidewinder fuel though. That looks to be Pro-10 car which is low oil and is mostly synthetic if I'm not mistaken. It's ok in Ball Bearing ABC engines but Cox and other Reed and Rotor valve plain bearing engines might not live too long. (Bandit)
Mark beat me to the punch anyway as he said and I agree the nitro is not the problem, it's the oil content.

I use backyard basher fuel by Morgan 20% nitro. Morgan say's it 16% oil, mostly castor. I add castor to bring the oil up to 20%. I run my Cox, Wen's, Ok, all on it and they love it. I also add methanol and castor to it to make 10%-26% for my fox and mccoy 35's, and they love it too.

"Nods" yup you can do that in fact if you use the race fuel you can add even more castor to it.chevyiron420 wrote:I use backyard basher fuel by Morgan 20% nitro. Re: Best fuel for FRV engines??
That's a tight looking little green machine.
I remember when they had carts at the State Fair, that was my first taste of racing, and also when I found out I was a good driver. My first time out, I either didn't know what the red flag meant or else I was snoozing on it while bringing up the rear at WOT. By the time I saw all the motionless carts clogging the lane, I picked a narrow gap and flew through a wide eyed pack of other kids, still in their carts, with only a loud tick as both sides of my front bumper made contact with two of their rear bumpers, then skidded to a stop. After a collective sigh of relief, about three other kids came up to me and patted me on the back, saying, "Good driving, man." That was the beginning of my wild chain of driving events that lasted until I had my first and only child. Gotta have that ice water... and I don't mean in the cooling can Lol. Looking back on it, it's sort of horrifying, some of the stuff I survived without a scratch.
