The "Lucky Duck" Mark!!!!!!!!!

Friends can be nice about such things. It is how I recently got 2 "290" engines.

Well, we had lunch with my wife’s friend and her husband.  He had the box of stuff ready to go.  It had more than just engines, so it was a pretty good haul.




For Cox engines, it had a Medallion .049, a Babe Bee, and most of a second Babe Bee.  The disassembled Bee came out of a RTF P-40.  I think this because it has the tan spinner, and there was an instruction booklet for the RTF P-40 in the box.




It also had a Wen-Mac III engine.




But, the real score was this:




A Jim Walker Firecracker .065 engine.  He had a Walker FireBaby at one time, as the engine, landing gear, bellcrank, control handle, and a spare aluminum prop were in the box.  So, I guess a FireBaby replica is now in my building queue.





The box also had 11 one ounce bottles of Butyrate dope, and 3 two ounce bottles.  Amazingly enough, four of the one ounce bottles were still fluid, and one of the two ounce clear bottles was unopened and fluid.  I don’t know how long Butyrate dope is good for.  Maybe I’ll try some and see.  There were also cans of Hobbypoxy, but they were dried up also.




There was some covering material called SilRay that is some sort of silk-Rayon blend.  A Cox jewel case top that I can clean up to replace a cracked one I have on one of my NIB engines.  Some spinners, two Perfect fuel tanks, a home made tank, two Goldberg control handles, and this interesting spray unit.  It’s an Ambroid Jet-Pak unit.




One thing I’ve been considering buying lately is a test stand for larger engines.  Luckily, there was one in the box.  Should work fine for me.




There were also 10 of these little vials.  They are vaguely familiar, but I can’t remember what I saw them used for.  The ones with labels say “68077 EP”.  Anyone know what they were from?

Your wife (and you) have a very considerate set of friends for sure. You have received a  Box-o-goodies that will be appreciated and used for years to come. It feels good to see that somebody would pass these items on to someone who can use them.
That sprayer unit was for us poor kids who didn't have an air compressor or air sprayer to paint our models. I have not run across any "PowerUnit" spray refills, but have held on to the unit just in case.






That Wood Engine mounting stand brings back an old memory of my good friend and airplane building neighbor Harry. He was on disability and was diabetic I'd lent my engine stand to him to break in a new engine. We shared tools and supplies. I did mostly control line, he did free flight. Harry passed away while I was at college. When I returned home on Christmas break, I went next door to pay my respects to his wife, and inquired about our hobby supplies and Harry's airplanes. Much to my horror she told me she'd gathered up everything and put it out in the trash, just days after the funeral. Owch.

Batjac, I haven't seen Testors bottles of dope in a long, long time, used to see those in Pete's Modelcraft at Ala Moana Shopping Center, Honolulu in the 1960's. Had both sizes, the 1 oz and 4 oz. It was decent dope, favorite color was orange, but had Stinson green also, used them to paint a Walt Musciano Scientific Little Bipe and Little Devil in late 1960's.

That IS a good haul! Isn't it fun to go through stuff like that?

Back in the fifties I used to buy the 1oz. jars for trim and the 4oz. ones for clear, sealer and thinner. I was building 1/2A - A size planes at that time. I had forgotten about the 2oz. jars.

I still use an EZ Just test stand. You will find that for small muffled engines you need to remove the muffler to accommodate the wing nuts.  

There were also 10 of these little vials.  They are vaguely familiar, but I can’t remember what I saw them used for.  The ones with labels say “68077 EP”.  Anyone know what they were from?

I seem to remember some brand of glow plug that came in vials similar to those.
