Just now epoxied on the hard luck vertical stabilizer.  Moral .... even after a 36 hour cure don't sit the 48 hour cured fuselage get anywhere near it.  Also don't try to respray during a tornado (Cyclone) alert with high humidity.   But alls well that ends well, lower humidity this morning allowed a respray.

The kit came with "elephant ear" cowls and bracing which I chose not to use.  Instead I'm thinking about cutting one of the Lustercoat can covers to fit finishing with a lightened circular reinforcement and appropriate relief's for the cylinder and needle valve exposures.  No need to paint to match.  It's a perfect fit north/south for the existing firewall.  I would sandwich the landing gear between the two.

The kids (all in their 50's) were over for Father's day and commented that the pilot wasn't smiling.  Knowing that I was at the controls I responded, you wouldn't smile either.

My Dremel hinge slot cutter worked great, best slots I ever cut and in a sixteenth of the time, took me less than a minute to make eight perfect cuts.  The bell crank to control horn traverse is straight with no need for a bend, ought to control nicely on this Walt Musciano design.

The kit came with a wood screw to affix the control horn, not having a lot of confidence in that I used a machine screw, washer and a nut.  But this is a great kit, ultra complete with music wire lead outs and quality wheels.  I test ran the engine a couple of weeks ago and it ran great.  The eyelets under the leading edges of the wings are functional providing inlet air for the Space Bug Jr.

I still have to fillet the wing roots and clean up a few details before I fly it.  Wonder if it will fly like my old Cyclone.

I get annoyed with single screw horns. The durn things twist.

Super fine looking machine there!

Thanks guys, It's the first 1/2A model that I have built in over 35 years.

One thing I forgot to mention, this kit had no provisions for a rudder, it was only supplied with a tip weight. I was thinking about adding some off-set shims to the engine but after reading Ken Cooks analysis in Roger's Stunt Trainer Design thread I wonder if it's necessary.

I know the "step back" procedure when launching but having it come back on me is a worry.

BTW - I like the Lustercoat finish technique. It's really just dope in a spray can and it applies evenly, just don't use it in high humidity conditions.

Not the most sophisticated of tip weights but cheaper than a nickel.

The spray can cowl may work?? Or maybe look for something else.

I hope that BRILL means something good in Aussie speak. Smile Welcome to the 1/2 A CL club, I'm thinking that Raven is going to turn out BRILL.

I found it on ebay Eric sometime last year, around $36.00 if I remember correctly.

I roughed out a cowl off of a spray can of some sort. I didn't use the Lustercoat top as it had lots of printing on it. I fit's nicely if a little large but I'm not sure that I will use it because I also like the looks of that red tanked Space Bug Jr. hanging out there in the wind. Smile

I like the look with the cowl, although you might want to open up the front a little more. The Bug jr is a good looking engine, so you can't really go wrong whether you go with or without the cowl Smile
