D Cell Battery Holder Question Empty D Cell Battery Holder Question

Post  NEW222 Sun Oct 04, 2015 7:22 pm

Hi all. I have a little question regarding a D cell battery holder for my engines. I have previously made a holder for 2 D cell batteries that has worked without any problems. So, as I mostly run engines at home, and fly at the cottage, I wanted to make another. I went online and found the 2 D cell holders more expensive than the 4 D cell holders. So I ordered the 4 cell holder. Now that it has arrived, I was wondering if there is any benefit to lugging around a holder with 4 cells in it, or would I be safe to cut it down and make 2 more holders that house 2 cell each. The current one I have has not given me any problems nor does it wear down the batteries quickly. Thank you in advance for any and all help or opinions related to this question.

Make sure the batteries are in parallel, so you only get 1.5V

I have a 3 D cell setup. Lasts all summer.

A pair of alkalines gets the job done pretty well, even better if they are NiCd or NiMH. But if you have a particularly finicky engine or are testing one, the security of having a quad is nice. The kind of thing you can leave in the car in case you need it. Especially on cold days. And good to use at the test bench when you're doing a lot of cranking. and want to be sure a weak glow isn't hampering your testing.

Yes, I have to rewire the case anyways to keep it at 1.5 volts. But it is what to do about making it a 4 cell holder, or two 2 cell holders. I do like the idea of a quad for bench testing, which is where most of my playing around occurs. I will just sleep on it tonight. Thank you.
