Balloon Tank Made Easier?

Re: Balloon Tank Made Easier?
No.. but I did make the correlation. I'd wanted to mess with the balloon tank principle some more; since back when I made the floral-tube capsule design. That was a year or two ago. My bad though.. because I don't test all of my designs out. I enjoy the building part of it.. and using easy to find stuff if I can. I also try to recycle where I can.
Hey Eric, I'll bet your Tee Dee would be a good test! The floral-tube has an approximate 10cc capacity.. but you'd subtract from that; for the spool-fitting and the wall-thickness of the fuel pick-up tubing. If your balloon fills the tube all the way to the back.. you'll be at around 7cc's. You may want to go with more capacity than that though. Is 7cc's enough fuel for a Teed Dee .049/.051 to make ten 1/2A Proto-Speed laps on 35' lines?
Re: Balloon Tank Made Easier?
5cc = 1 teaspoon
3 teaspoon = 1 tablespoon
2 tablespoon = 1 fluid ounce.
So it really depends on what you want to do with it as to your engine run.

Hmmm… I pulled out the leather punch and tried this on some fuel tubing. I punched holes directly through the center, and on the edge like with the hole punch. I think I like the edge more than through the center. But, using the leather punch with the various sizes of punch head, I can make finer holes on the side. I think I’ll try this on my L’il Pipe Bomb.
I bought these 9” party balloons at my local Albertsons. I initially tried some dollar store balloons, but they weren’t the greatest, and they didn’t specify for Helium. Over on Stunthanger, Larry Renger says to use balloons that specifically state that they are for He. His opinion is that they work better and last longer.
I’ve been wondering casually just how much fuel these balloons will hold without being pressurized. I just happened to get some 10cc syringes yesterday that I order off of Amazon, so I pulled out a balloon and one of the syringes to see how much water the balloon would hold without being pressurized. The balloon took 50cc’s right up to the neck without overflowing. So, I figure with the fuel tube and a plug of some sort, they’ll easily do 45cc’s, or 1½ ounces. Thas’ a lotta flyin’.

Prices aside, this would at least give you more reason to build and fly.
