ground effect tethered model

I thought about building an Ekronoplan tethered model, just to see if I could make it work. The link is to a very interesting vid.. although the audio was out of sync in some portions when I viewed it. Possibly my internet connection to blame.

Maybe a RTP model with radio-controls for pitching the thrust and flaps? That's really all you'd need for a tethered model right?

Roddie- Verrrry Intrrresting (said in my best Col Klink impression ). Yes the audio is not in sync with the video. The are a few comments about that next to the video, along with a somewhat long post by someone in what I think is Russian. After or even during the video I kept thinking this guy is the Russian version of Howard Hughes except he used Russion money rather than his own to finance the project. Intresting concept but may not, or has not, proved practical for commercial or governmental use. That one guy has quite a few Fiberglas models, you could do a freeze frame and scale drawings from that. Or take something like a Beachcraft Bonanza and cut the wings off.
Do you think that the dual props on the "fun" sized unit they're still building are mechanically gear driven or possibly hydraulic? I think there'd be a maintence headache if those are gear driven. I was thinking of mounting a couple of Baby Bees on a shaft to control the prop wash underneath the lifting body. cheers

Good idea Roddie, we talked about ekranoplans before, 1,5 years ago or so, but I can't find the thread. On RCGroups, there is a useful thread about the subject.

The Lippisch design is more easy to model I think than the Russian one.

Sort of like this.. only tethered.. This is a great vid. The builder explains his experiments.. and gives you an idea of how you might attempt to build one for RC. He states that in "ground effect" it uses much less power than in flight.

Roddie: any idea where the plans are available? I followed the links and saw 2 videos, but no links to plans.

Negative, happydad.. but the builder said that he was interested in web-links to any other RC GEV activities. If you have a YouTube account, try contacting him. He may share the design specs of his model with you.

EDIT: This is a link to a vid describing the model's construction. The builder states that it's not a build-vid.. and currently; there are no PDF plans.. but it's a simple design. Is this one of the vids you watched?
