Strato Bug wanted....
Hi Guys and gals, has anyone got a spare Strato Bug they want to pass on to a new home? My hobby-pocket isn't deep enough for anything better than a ratty one, so I'm after anything at all, even a broken/non-runner/bones engine--as long as it's got the right Strato tank parts I can fix the rest.
PS--not holding my breath waiting! Must be many others after the same thing!

Re: Strato Bug wanted....
This listing just ended, the front end looked bad but the rear looked right. This is what even a bad one sells for.

Hi crankbndr, yeah I was watching that one, even got up at 2.45 am to put in a bid...and got outbid before I even hit the key. Madness! Another one sold recently in the UK for £150, much better than this one, I shoulda bid harder for that one. Ah well, looks like I'll have to close up the gap on my shelf, or cobble up a replica.
Cheers, Rob

Re: Strato Bug wanted....
I would not buy any "Stratobug" blindly from Ebay and I thought the one sold in the US for $300 was way over priced for a well used and neglected engine. The seller who has very good feedback as a buyer but has sold very little, certainly not in the last 12 months and certainly not an engine. He is obviously an honest ebayer but I would be wary of such a purchase at that level. Then again, everything has a risk.
The Stratobug has been cloned so beware.

The engine you missed at an extremely reasonable price was from a collector who I have had dealings with.
This is a video of his collection in 2010.
and 10 months ago. Watch this video and you will probably see the one you missed.
This is a collector who upgrades and probably now has a mint Stratobug in the original packaging.
I would trust a purchase from this chap and he would answer any relevant question.
His display is superb - I am envious of that. He is a "Coxaholic"
....... and, like me, he likes the Ronald Valentine versions!

Re: Strato Bug wanted....
Hi Ian, thanks for the advice. Generally I do stay clear of buying off eBay unless it's something special or rare-in-the-UK, my web of contacts usually sees to it that I get offered a steady stream of the commoner engines. And I don't buy small stuff from US sellers any more 'cos the post cost really kills the value. Bought a 302 glow head for £12 and got charged £13 post---steep! One last exception, tho, on at the moment is a NOS RR-1 crankcase, I'm gonna stretch the piggy-bank for that one--- sorry in advance if I bid against any CEF members, but my ol' girl really needs that part!

Too late, Ian, waaaay too late!!! Just had a look at the pix of your collection, most impressive!---even at its best my collection was a mere fraction of yours. Used to have around 300-350, now down to around 80. Keeping all the Cox's, the D-C's, the ME's and my Katipo's, all the ones that fired me up as a kid. Only a few more to find...for now, anyway. Till I see the next one.....
