It could very well be Ron.  The fins look a little thicker than on my McCoy .29 but everything else checks out including the twisted wire needle. BTW McCoy made a lot of engines that were not red heads.

it could be an Ueda by the looks of the fins.
but they didn't have offset plugs
maybe a different head that fitted was put on?
maybe a kb?
maybe a McCoy with wear 'n' tear?

It's a nice looking airplane.. without a doubt! If you have a soft-spot for Corsairs.. it looks to be close to ARF. You know you want it Bob.. I'm sorry.. I'm an instigator.. but I know that you'd give it a good home. It's already built.. and probably flown. You can assess that with a closer look. Your son knows your passion!

Looks like a really well built Sterling C-9 Corsair by the look of the canopy.
I don't know what kind of engine it is but it wouldn't stop me from buying the model. I'm so American engine biased on 60's models I'd put a McCoy or K&B in it anyway.
Did you end up buying it?

No I didn't buy it and I'm having letting it go remorse.

Had I been there I would have offered $150 for both the Corsair and shark nosed P-40. The not knowing is killing me.

This is an enormous every weekend flea market, next week I think I will attend. Gotta find out about that engine. My son was listening to people commenting about the model. One mentioned that it was no good because the rudder wouldn't move. Another wondering if it ran on electricity with the wires coming out of the fuselage.

And yes, I'm a big fan of the F4U Corsair.
