Rustoleum's Alkyd-Enamel used to be their standard aerosol paint/coating years ago. It is HEAVY.. but yields a decent finish with very few coats and has very good resistance to glow-fuel. It used to state Alkyd Enamel on the front label.. but I haven't seen that actual description on their rattle-cans for years. Enamels are not all the same. The best thing to do is a little research before you make your purchase. Rustoleum still makes Alkyd Enamels.. but you need to know what product to buy. Just buying a spray-can of their (or any other manufacturers) Gloss Protective Enamel on impulse.. off the hardware store shelf, in a color that strikes you.. is taking a chance on how fuel-resistant it will be.

From what I've read recently; Rustoleum's enamel products labeled "Professional" High-Performance are their Alkyd formula. Their "Farm Equipment" aerosol cans for instance are an Alkyd Enamel.. but the colors are limited.

I have the Harry Higley book "There are no Secrets".. which is a great resource for the finisher. The book explains different finishes.. their advantages/dis-advantages, compatibility charts and application methods. It's a bit "dated" by today's standards; where it doesn't list some of the newer products that have emerged.. but it gives the modeler information on choices and explains the fact that a satisfactory finish can be achieved with patience and knowledge.. without spending a lot of money.
