A Fun Model Airplane Weekend !!!!

A Fun Model Airplane Weekend !!!!
Copied from some stuff I put on Facebook this morning:
Had a big weekend at two Model Airplane activities.
One was a solo trip to Kennett, Missouri for the Kennett RC Flyer's First Annual Summer Warm Up and the other, a run with Billy Lang to a Control Line Carrier Event at Buder Park in St. Louis.
The weather gave everybody a break on Saturday---still pretty warm, though not as bad as the previous week. I'd packed Mud Dabber and my Little Fling Sailplane (which didn't get flown), and got in four flights early and late in the day.
My battered yellow trainer seldom flys without a Go Pro or two strapped to it's old carcass, and it was packing a couple of it's 'selfie sticks' each time it flew.
There was a broad sampling of R/C, and I managed to get some video and photos of the action.

Billy and I made a Sunday run to Buder Park, just outside St. Louis, to watch the Control Line Carrier Contest hosted by the Lafayette Esquadrille Control Line Club.
Neither of us had ever been to one of these contests and Leo also showed up to check out the fun.
The contest involves control line model airplanes, equipped with throttles and tail-hooks, that simulate planes landing on aircraft carriers.
The planes launch, making timed high-speed laps, followed by timed low-speed laps, trying to hold a deck angle of 60 degrees. The planes then attempt a landing on simulated carrier deck equipped with arresting 'cables'.
There's a bunch more involved in the rules and scoring, and we learned a lot about the part of our hobby that we'd only previously read about.
Our buddy Dan McEntee was also on hand with some friends, flying some new and vintage stunt planes on the adjoining circle.

A fellow had a .60 size Fierce Arrow at Brodak's. It was pretty darn big. He brought it there unflown. When someone mustered up the required testosterone to fly it, it flew for nearly 25 minutes.
