No i don't have a multimeter just a voltage ck'er that goes to 460V , Yes I still sell SOME on Ebay . I am really thinking about calling an electrician and like George said patch it for now and fix it later this house was built in the 30s .. I have a drain problem in the basement too and its a little wet down there , when I first went down there after the power 1/2 went out there was 5" water I had to pump out Shocked

The drain is stopped up and needs digging up waiting to catch my new neighbor that has a business and backhoe see what he will charge me to dig the mess up so i can fix it with cutter/rooter Have done this before cause of short pieces of clay type pipe was put in . Still chasing a couple cans of R22 for my A/C unit too ... Had a tooth pulled I am on a down hill spiral here ! Thanks for all the help and advice !! You guy are Great !!! Small Cox Logo

One of those with neon lamps indicating the voltage? You can use that, given the leads are long enough for you to reach each lug. You want to see if there is line voltage at the female contacts in the fuse block. If you don't have voltage there, then your problem is somewhere ahead of your fuses. If you have voltage there (240 volts across the two contacts, and 120 volts from each contact to the neutral bar and/or metal cabinet of the fuse box (assuming the box was bonded correctly), then you want to insert your fuse pullout with known good fuses, and then check the voltage on the output lugs of that block to ensure power is passing through the fuses.

A good electrician will be able to tell you exactly what is wrong without just condemning the system at first look (like some will try to do in order to sell you a full replacement). Be prepared that a full replacement may be necessary if the contacts inside your panel are compromised.

R22 is expensive stuff these days, hopefully you don't need much. Need an EPA certification to buy the stuff from supply houses now.
