Hi. I'm Darrell. I've been designing/building/flying C/L since about 1962. Getting too dizzy to do much flying anymore. All my engines are used. My mentor from all those years ago taught me that they were meant for flying, not just looking at. Our (mostly his) original designs were all photographed prior to flying. Many did not survive that first outing.
I'm glad this forum exists. Sport C/L seems to have been dying off for decades. Between the early objections of noise pollution to the later ascendancy of R/C and electric, I have felt like an endangered species. Anyway, it's good to know you're out there!

You're in good hands. You have a point I believe in, engines were made to be used. There's a couple day wait period for access to the photo upload feature, done to minimize spammers.
I got my start in model airplane kits in second grade during the early 1960's. First Cox RTF was in 1964, a Supermarine Spitfire with Silver Bee engine, (a precursor to the Black Widow with dual bypass SPI cylinder, 8 cc non-stunt tank and Babe Bee type nippled tank back.)

My first Cox engine was a a Baby Bee. At that time it retailed under four dollars. I built a Baby Ringmaster. Painted it silver and orange Aerogloss. It was all I could afford since I was only 13. For a couple years all my planes were silver and orange. Learned to fly on a Cox PT-19. I used a lot of rubber bands! Flew it on a school parking lot. That was pretty hard on crash landings!

Welcome to the CEF Glad you found us! PT-19 my first plane too lot of fun for awhile my Dad helped me a lot in getting starting building stuntman 23 .

I'm on my second Stuntman23. This time I added two small flaps to the wing. A friend who flew it told me it was the best profile he had ever flown. He said it could so the entire stunt pattern. Unfortunately for this forum, I mounted a Norvell .061.

Welcome to the best little engine forum in the Internet! Do not fret your Norvel .061. We love all small engines, and even some big ones! I'm particularly fond of Norvel .074s, and used to have a Black Hawk Models DH Mosquito.
I used to have a Scientific P-40 with an AP .061, but I wasn't sent packing when it debuted here. Dig around, get comfortable. Settle in for the long haul. Enjoy your stay.
Soon enough you'll be able to post pictures. We all love pictures of our flying art, and mourn together over the non-flying crashes. Hopefully you can share more in the air than down in the crater. Crashes mean I have room for my next plane/build, so I try to not take it to heart...but boy, did the last flight of each of the above planes sting!
