crank endplay Empty crank endplay

Post  jeffmeadows Fri Jan 28, 2011 2:23 pm

thanyou very much for the information you guys have given me. I was wondering what the proper amount of crank (prop) endplay is. I have 5 or 6 cox .049's I am starting to mess with and everyone has different crank endplay. I would say it is up to 1/8 of an inch or more. Is this OK? Plus, how hard is it to correct this problem. One more question, do I really need special tools to chage a crank?

Thanks for any help,
Jeff

Well, I usually would check to see if the crankpin is hitting the tank or backplate. Just remove the cylinder and push on the driveplate, it it rubs on the tank or backplate then I would tighten it up or replace the whole piece. I actually don't have any of the special crankcase tools myself but I do get around using some of my other tools. I have a section on my site that may help with this. http://sites.google.com/site/coxenginecollection/replacing-a-broken-crankshaft-in-a-post-1959-babe-bee
