New (to me) mouse racer.

New (to me) mouse racer.
Went to the Central Arizona Control Line Club meeting tonite and came home with a new plane. I took my speed contest planes for show and tell last month and then flew them with the club a couple of Saturdays ago. The club president said he and his son used to race mouse and he would bring a few planes to the next meeting meeting. He brought three planes tonite and said I could have this one:
He said it had been built by a fellow named Ron Connely, and that it should do over 80mph. The engine is a reworked Black Widow. It was sealed with rtv, has an brass fuel pickup, the cylinder ports have been opened and the timing changed. It is clogged with old fuel and currently soaking in fuel. Can't wait to get her cleaned and put back together. The plane is monokoted, I may strip and refinish with paint.

Re: New (to me) mouse racer.
That is a great score Jim.
Interesting changes on the Black Widow. All mine are stock.
I like the aluminum plate on the plane and then the easy plywood spacers to use. Really nice concept.
I would like to see some pictures of the changes to the Black Widow if you can post some?
Hope you let us know what the engine does when you start her up.

That's great Jim! I like the firewall-shim set up too... Since your creation of the CEF Speed contest.. I've learned so much, that I'd like to build at least another 1/2A reed speed/racing model for this Summer... one that's "light" and "streamlined"...
