Metal Fuel Tanks Empty Metal Fuel Tanks

How do these metal tanks work? If they are on a stunt CL plane and I do inverted will the fuel supply get cut off? I will be getting a combat plane and am trying to decide on how I am going to supply fuel. I will be using an engine with a killer bee backplate

They are really meant for CL planes and I am told do not work well for rc as in CL the fuel all goes to the outside to that is where the pickup is.

I am not worried about spilling, just the fuel flow continuing to the engine during some kind of stunt.

I do not think it will flow well.
Get a sullivan 1oz tank kit!

Sorry, I read your post wrong. Like Indra said, it is designed for CL; so unless it is damaged or you mount it wrong it will be fine. Make sure it is clean.

The metal tanks worked for me, but the Sullivan tank worked better. Very Happy Bending those tubes though... ug.

Depends. I have had anywhere from 30 seconds to 1:30.

Not sure what you mean. What's your application? I have never heard of a 5cc tank lasting 9 (I think I got that right) minutes. Maybe if you throttled it all the way down and ran it lean...

I was talking about the 1oz tank you posted the link to. It is 30cc. 6 times larger than the standard tank.

Oh, this was the post - "How long would you say a standard 5cc tank would run?"

The Sullivan 1oz clunk tank lasts around 10 minutes on my Killer Bee. Which screams.

I do not think I could hold onto a combat CL plane for 10 minutes. I will just fill it up half full.

For control line use, this is the design of tank you need..Metal Fuel Tanks Cl_tan10

(I hope Bernie will forgive me for using his picture!)

This is known as a "Wedge" tank for obvious reasons, the feed pipe (On top in this picture) goes toward the outside of the circle, the side opposite the leadouts. The vents are designed so that no matter what position the model is in, upright, inverted, or whatever, the fuel will not run out. Centrifugal force pushes the fuel to the feed pipe as the model flies. In my experience of control line (which is considerable) this is the ONLY type of tank to use in any model that aspires to be aerobatic, do NOT use a clunk tank designed for R/C use, it will never give you consistent feed when subjected to the forces acting on a control line model.

FYI, the Perfect tank is not a 'Uniflow' tank. A unifo tank has a second air intake. The idea is like a bubbler, same amout of fuel runs out at a contant rate. ( see crappy drawing) This is what most use for C/L stunt as it give a lot better run.

I would not use a wedge for R/C, but for C/L it would be ok. You might look at what Rustys done with balloon tanks.

There seems to be some confusion among members as to whether we are talking about fuel tanks for control line or radio control models. As far as I read Godsey's origional question, it is for CONTROL LINE use, no mention of R/C that I can see! Flying

Any of our pictures can be used for non-commercial purposes at any time. On an occasional basis they can even be used for commercial purposes (such as selling on eBay) by asking us first. We would then provide a "clean" picture, sans watermark. No big deal and always happy to help
