Celebrating National Model Airplane Day with the Marion Sky Squires and the Breezy Hill Flyers
Beth and I had a big time over in Illinois last Sunday, celebrating National Model Airplane Day with the Marion Sky Squires, along with my buds from the Breezy Hill Flyers.
Great bunch of guys, with a beautiful flying field. A little bit of everything, from Control Line to Drones cruising around .
The Limbo Contest was the First one I'd seen since the late 1970s, and was a hoot...with Billy trading Trash Talk with 8 year-old R/C prodigy Kaden (Kaden said he was flying a 'Ferrari', and that Billy was driving a Ford). In the end though, age and experience won out over youthful cockyness . Kaden's Cub kept getting hung up in the ribbon...(Billy then asked him how he liked that Ford Cobra beating his Ferrari!!!).
Ultimately though, Leo took First Place from both of them!
Tent City, with the Breezy Hill Guys parked at the outskirts...
Billy is "All About the Style" as he launches Leo's 1/2A Flite Streak.
Ronnie's Four-Stroke on his Four Star...
Beth and Billy do 'Airplane Hands' as Kaden looks on...
The Limbo Crew...
Leo's incredible pass, shoe-horning his plane under the Limbo Ribbon
Billy's Cub scared the ribbon so bad that it broke before he got there...
Kayden theorizes on his Limbo Flight.
Ronnie and Leo look over Ronnie's plane that got it's prop in the ground on landing.
Limbo was ultimately won by the guy with the tallest (landing gear to top of rudder) plane in the contest. Leo returns to the Breezy Hill tent with his winning plane. He shall forever be spoken of in hushed and reverent tones around campfires in all future fun-flys...

Great post, Kim...good to see also that 8-years old boys are being interested and professional in RC flying.
I wish I could once participate in such an event, both as visitor and contender (and as an 8-years old, but this one is already highly hypotetic)...especially with IC engines these events are very rare, if staged at all anywhere, in my country..so I remain a lone wolf with my noisy and greasy but beloved COX RC critters in this small part of the world....

Hello Kim, what a good event !, thank you for sharing it here. Like András, I would also like to participate, but this way you can enjoy it too!
András, my dear friend, here also happens to me the same, I am in my club practically alone with the line of small engines like the Cox, but that makes many marvel and can not believe how well these small jewels work, making them be Desirable in the eyes of many.
Remember, I have my own phrase for this:
"Being unique, how it happens to you, shows your true passion for what you do."

Thanks Kim I always love your photo reports
I have seen so many very very cool model helicopter over the years but most dron guys seem content with the ugly thing quad or more
They may be out there and I have just not into it enough to have looked
BUT seem to me some of these drones would make way cool Avatar the movie type aircraft models
