de Havilland Sea Hornet

de Havilland Sea Hornet
I recently found myself in possession of not one but two conquest .15s and figured why not build a profile carrier plane. Since I'm both lazy and short of time I decided to experiment with an all sheet wing.
Wing is 1/4" sheet with basswood spars and leading/trailing edges.
Fuselage and nacelles are 3/8" balsa, nacelles have 1/8" birch ply doublers. The fuselage has a 1/8" basswood spine that goes over the top of the wing, bass caps top and bottom. Hard points are for the carrier hook, tail skid, and 1/8 steel pin that will pierce the wing and help with the 50-60lb pull test. The cutout above the wing is for the control lines, the bellcrank will be on top of the outboard wing.
It's a slow process as it can only be worked on while the new chief design engineer naps.

Looks great so far. It's amazing that those new hires always take time away from important work.

Ha! So did I. Had to google it to verify. One of my favorites is the DH-110 sea vixen.

The plane is looking good Jim , hope we get to see more of it in the near future . I had forgot you and yours had a addition to the Family , it do make a Big difference in what ya can and can't do ! From the sound of it going to bee plenty reinforced with the hardwoods you have chosen.

What thickness is the wing?
Just by looking at the photos, I can't get an idea as to the wing thickness. Is it reinforced?
If its too thin for two .15s, you might get wing flutter and vibration.
This is not a criticism, but I am interested as I built a mosquito profile some time ago, but it had a built up wing, which it needed.
Regards,
Tim
