Your years now I have watched storms, hot and cold fronts over my Cen Tex location manage to run east and hit Rusty 3 to 5 days later. Occasionally they head further North to Ken, Bob and Roddie

Right here on my dirt it----so far has been a big ho hum event. Third day now of light gusts and constant drizzle with a few mins of heavier rain.  But since start Friday to right now only 2.75 inches

Just on the very edge of the outer bands and the slow mover is heading away from us

I predict....based on what I see the Jet stream doing Harvey will track across to Rusty south of the I-40 and above I-20/30

Of course since it had potential to Mess us up we have been checking all the sources ever few hours

Very curious that none of the big boys can plot more and a few hours into the future with this one

An Hint is/was the stalled front over Texas as Harvey built for second time in the gulf and a skitziod Jet Stream for last 6 weeks

Any way point of this post is Rusty's flood prone shop
Time to git all that chit off the floor buddy.....grin

Post  Ken Cook Sun Aug 27, 2017 9:56 pm

I used to take a vacation in August down to the Jersey shore. Going earlier in the year is a must.  Unfortunately, the storms from the south depending on their speeds can quickly ruin those Kodak moments. Hurricane Sandy did extensive damage even though the winds were not heavy. The flooding was very bad. The ice cream shop I visit yearly has a picture of the water line inside which was every bit of 6' high 3 blocks from the dunes.  The Jersey shore can rapidly turn sour, streets flood in small rain storms bordering the vacation areas and while storms like this don't hit landfall to the degree it hits the southern states, the winds alone cause lots of damage. One hurricane in particular was Dennis in the 90's  which was the worst I ever experienced as that made it into the suburbs of Philadelphia. The meteorologists had given the all clear as it appeared as though it was going to skate by.  It came down so hard and fast the storm drains couldn't handle the heavy rains. The manhole covers were popping off leaving motorists to drive into holes. The drive in at the local Mcdonalds required boats where police fire and rescue were removing people out of the drive in windows. I hope all is ok in Texas. I haven't been following the news.

I am in the clear thank you for your concern,
My area was just on the outer bands of the storm, I lost power for about 4 hrs.
We had strong winds and rain but it only lasted 2 days.

This is a rough pic, old folks unable to risk mobilization or do much other than put up with the water until help
comes to pull them out of there the bed ridden ones sitting up in bed to clear the water. 1 trillion gallons est.
dumped on Houston and est. 20 trillion gallons across all effected areas. New construction and facility laws will
need to be established to minimize suffering during flooding. Commercial and residential Lot grading to improve
elevation would be a good start for all new construction. More and larger water basins, detention ponds and
improved drainage control to help buy them time to escape low lying areas, or at least retain 1st floor personal
items to take to safety with them. Notice the light in the back ground all wall receptacle off I imagine the breaker
tripped they are lucky to have the one light, bless their hearts and all all who have suffered.

I'm very glad Brad, know about you and that you are well.
Shocking and sad image, very hard .... I feel very sorry for these elders ... could be my family, that my blood freezes.

If a picture is worth a thousand words than that one is worth a million. The vulnerability of the elderly.

The TV pictures and narration indicated that the lady in blue was knitting, but the clear picture above seems to indicate that she is holding some sort of a bag. The table in the foreground has kibbles of cat food that at first I thought, no. Then I saw the cat in the background. The next day they broadcast a picture of the ladies safe at a shelter.

I had been thinking of Fred re. the storm but felt his location was away from the worst of it. Still surprised that he received almost 3 inches. Heart felt best wishes go to all those affected.

That's ridiculous, surely we can do better than that. That's a death sentence to those folks.

Hopefully they have been picked up by now. They should have been moved to high ground long before the storm hit. Pitiful!

Every event of this magnitude is truly heartbreaking especially with the elderly, young children, even wild life and pets suffering with no way to help themselves.
A small flood is totally horrible much less the 4th largest US city with flooding in biblical proportions !!
When I was 11 years old, a city/developer engineering snafu caused our neighborhood  to flood with 2 feet of water in our new home !! The clean up took many months and the hardwood floors were beyond repair.
We lost many, many things and to this day our family still recalls "The Flood"..
Has anyone heard from TEE BEE ? I believe he lived just outside Houston.
Never had any contact with him, but have seen his posts on this site and other sites many times...

God Speed to the Texans and also Louisiana !!!!
Steve...
