What to expect from a TD051 after near 300 hours runtime

What to expect from a TD051 after near 300 hours runtime
Bad weather kept me from the field today so instead of flying I decided to tach my old, retired TD051, to check how it spins a 4,8x4 (Bernie sells it under the name of 5x4) and 6x3 Thimble drome prop after such a long and honorable service time.
I have always wondered how performance deteriorates on an ageing COX engine, but in fact did not notice here anything as yet:
With my 60/20/20 favourite home-made fuel blend in the balloon tank, here are the shots I made:
It swings the 5x4 at 21630 rpm.
18270 rpm with the 6x3
Here is the set of toys:
So what? someone may ask...remember these rpm-s are still the same as the manual estimates for a new engine running a 5x3 and 6x3 prop.
On this one, after near 300 hours (I counted until about 250 then gave up counting but still used it for many hours) the tapered piston/cylinder set is the original, balljoint reset only once..yes, compression is no longer the original piston-popping when hot, but the 20+k rpm does not leave too much time for the gases to escape from the cylinder..
Long live COX.....!!!

very good info András !, that interesting and surprising to see the durability and performance of these engines of Cox.
Unless they were misused, with an inappropriate fuel, perhaps in a place with dust, etc .... these motors are of long service life and their performance is maintained.
Thanks for sharing this experience, here in Argentina there are not a lot of Cox pieces, but I am always alert to see if something appears ....!

Re: What to expect from a TD051 after near 300 hours runtime
Thanks, Mauricio,
myself also living far from the surviving COX Bonanza (the US), I may have developed this instinct of worrying about what next when my COX engines give up. For one thing, COX engines do not give up so easily, and for another, I have also stocked so many that they will outlast the last person called Balogh in my family ...

thank you for your words of encouragement and appreciate my work. I tell you that everything is possible, just that practice is needed, many times we do not have time, but practicing makes one better and better.
I've hung my Cox Stylo and I enjoy just seeing it there, like when I was a kid and I saw models in a store .... I'm thinking of making two more models! ...

It looks great on your model, it is not easy to coat, so you have done a good job!
