I don't know either Mark, I have never owned a Comet model.
Is the "flywheel" behind the prop some kind of starter? Wrap a string around it or something. I probably hand flipped it to start. You and Gwillie have me interested in these again.

Cubs are no fun to disassemble. Yours look fairly clean, so I'd do what I could to clean them externally and free them up (heat and oil), run them with high castor fuel, then give them a 10 second or so run with Cool Max to purge of castor and after lube them.
