TD 09 Ducted Fan

I sanded some material off the stator blades and now, this all fits into the outer tube. It was not any easy task as the blades are not evenly spread around the circumference and also because the outer tube is not rigid. But when inserted, the fan turns free.











In way of the black mark, I have to grind a bit away from the cooling duct because that's where the fixing screws go for the upper stator blades.



The tank/engine/rotor assembly is not only supported by the stator blades but also by 3 aluminium tubes and screws to be installed around the engine mount base in a Y. Kress includes wing-profiled tubes in the kit and they are too long as one could imagine. These tubes are difficult to hold for cutting or grinding, therefore I use aluminium tube with 4mm inner diameter to fit the #6 screws. The lenght of the tubes has to be determined by trial and error.. The #6 screws are 1 1/2" long and are too big. when used like this, they will protrude into the engine mount centre hole which houses silicon tubing. I will cut 10mm off each screw. That leaves 28 to 30mm and is enough to screw well into the engine mount.

Looks Good I was thinking you had to cut the impeller blades down ,but am sure it was still a job getting the turbine holder ? Straight and even ! Looking forward to a test run

I finished the engine mount supporting tubes. The screws where cut down to 30mm and the tips sharpened. It all holds together and the rotor turns freely. The stator blades where fixed to the outer tube by small screws and nylon washers. The construction is now finished.

Thanks guys. I'm glad I got this thing puzzled together finally. Now, there should be some testing carried out, but I 'm thinking of leaving that task to somebody else. I have no experience with new Conquests. The liner seems to be tapered, by hand it' s impossible to pass TDC. And I don't possess an electric starter.

Oh man that looks Great alot of fun went into that !! You would have to heat the head/cyl. to gat it to turn over easy enough to start w/out the elect. starter i don't know how you would ? Know anyone with one ?

Yes, for breaking in that engine, it has to come out for sure. There is also the muffler that's needed or a tuned pipe. More and more, I'm thinking of sending the lot to Sweden. But surfer_kris doesn't know it yet! He knows the Conquest very well and I'm sure he will bring all this to a good end (or beginning) without damaging the engine.

That sounds like a plan hope Kris will bee willing to help you out . I feel he will , I had forgot about the tricks that Brad was talking about been a minute since i have broken in a ABC engine although I do have a few !

I hope that it works out for you Lieven, worthy project. I have seen ducted fans flown, the A-10 Warthog for instance. Impressive. It seems like your enemy would be vibration, but the only way to check that out would be to run it.
