I picked this Tee Dee .020 for first gas engine run in over twenty years..... I bought it in 1974 from America’s Hobby Center.... I was 16 at the time....
I disassembled and cleaned it good using lots of tips I learned on the CEF! My shop smells like Hoppes # 9 now
Cobbled up a crankcase gasket, Used two head gaskets on Glow plug boy 24. Used a Cox black 4.5-2 prop (little scary, they are old) and ran rich for most of the run before leaning out a couple of short times. My tach showed 18.5 K and would hold that steady when leaned out.Need to order the right gaskets, Screw to accommodate the the spinner, new props etc.
Still taking inventory for the reed.049’s for parts too....I’m just glad parts are available!
Fabulous to hear this thing scream again.... Some of the neighbors came over to see what the commotion was lol....Fun evening!

Better to have curious neighbors instead of angry ones! Glad you got it going after so long. You bought that engine the year I was born!

Thanks for the encouragement guys, I’ll be running it some more in the future....
Can I trust the Cox black plastic props that are 20 plus years old? .... I flexed them and did not see any evidence of cracking..... I’ve read in the past that boiling may help but I really don’t know what that would accomplish.... Not a problem to order some new ones, Will just have to wait awhile.... Need to come up with a balancer too....
I had left the cylinder and head loose until just before starting....I didn’t want to stick the wrench across the ports so I snugged the cylinder with a piece of leather strap from an old belt using fingers only (learned here on CEF ).... Snugged the head with the wrench..... After running, the head came off easy but couldn’t undo the cylinder.... Couldn’t get a good enough grip and the strap kept slipping.... I finally wrapped a #32 rubber band tightly around the cylinder with several loops, Then the leather could get a good bite and rubber grabbed the cylinder and was able to pop it off..... Maybe someone could use this down the road sometime

Good tip.
If you dampen the leather then it bites the fins of cylinder.

Way to go RDW777 first run after many years like icing on the cake ,, I have only heard of the white porps being a problem >> boiling for a few mins. brings back the flexibility called conditioning << But if i were you go ahead and order some new ones, and Keep your face away from being in line with rotating prop
