RUNNING the Cox 140

RUNNING the Cox 140
Cox / Rhino 140 enthusiasts... I finally got around the RUNNING one of these engines (I have three)
The engine started surprisingly easy by hand, although would start backwards half the time. Propping it clockwise would get it running in the proper direction.
After some fiddling with the new Tillotson diaphragm, I had the Low and High speed needles adjusted for easy starting, good idle, good transition, and a rich top end.
Although an 18x8 prop seems HUGE for a 23cc engine, the engine handles it with no problem.
I know the 'recommended' prop is a 20x5, but I can't seem to find one of those to save my life
My goal was merely to see if the Tillotson replacement diaphragm (described earlier) would work - IT DOES - and to see just how one of the engines actually runs. Now that I have been there, done that, I am going to sell this engine since I don't envision building a giant RC Ford Trimotor at anytime in my future
IF anyone is interested in owning a working piece of Cox and giant scale RC history, let me know. Here a video of the engine:

Pretty neat. I have heard about them but never saw one running. Thanks for sharing.

That is really cool. Same here, I've heard of them, but never saw one run. Very cool!
Re: RUNNING the Cox 140
I have a Rhino 140 new in the box that I got about three years ago, I think? I have all the paperwork with it. I haven't started it yet. Maybe after the move it will be on the list. I think I might start back into RC in addition to CL once I get settled. My biggest worry is how much glow fuel the thing is going to drink. My plan is to draw up a Giant Scale Q-Tee. After all, what better plane for a Cox engine than a Q-Tee?
Also, I was toying with moving the prop hub from the Rhino over to a Beaver so I could use gas for a plane instead of expensive glow fuel.
