John Deere - Made in China?

You bet, and a lot of other places too. Diesel engine made in Japan, other parts global. I didn't want to believe it and wouldn't until i saw it in black and white. Well, green anyway.

Arrived today. Complicated with an operators manual that rivals my Accords 592 pages. Dash lights up like Christmas. Top heavy, tippy hence the roll-bar. Seat belt, delivery guy says safest place is on the seat in case of a roll-over. Not like the safe and secure Ford model N that I learned on at Toddy Clements poultry farm. Those big fenders cradled you.

Throttle on the tree, a couple of gears, a brake and you were on your way.

Love the three cylinder diesel, loads of power, got the bigger 1025 tractor rather than the 1023. Bucket detaches in an instant, whole assemble slightly longer as you have to disconnect the hydraulics. Ride over mower attaches without leaving the seat.

Mark handled the whole transaction. Much better at it than I am. Slow vehicle warning sign had a scratch so he had them substitute another, one of the control handles was bent, same thing. After discounts were completed he had them toss in the first service, they come and pick it up do the service and deliver. $2K if you opt for the whole schedule. Even got me a hat. Smile

That change thing. When I bought my '59 Corvette I flushed with a hose a lot of change out of the rocker panels. Fiberglass, no rust with holes in both ends. Old change, Liberty standing half dollars etc.. Saved it all, still in a box around here somewhere.

Nice toy! Did you have to wait long for delivery? I’m reading they are backlogged and can’t find enough employees. Mid year 2020 I decided I wanted a new refrigerator cause the almost new one I have is a royal piece of @&”! Sold out everywhere, but order now and deliver in March 2021. No thanks. You are lucky you got that green machine. Have fun

China is an amazing country with an ancient history. Their people eat dogs, spit on the floor and land rovers on Mars. Quite an intellectual span but they rank very low on my respect list. That regimented society thing. I come from NH, the "Live free or die" state.

I had to wait a couple of weeks. Not because of lack of inventory, the local dealer had two 1025's but both had several hours on them and Mark wouldn't accept that. They had to go to Charlottesville to get this one with .4 hours on the clock.

What is it with refrigerators. Mark has one made in the 1930's with the exposed compressor on the top. Still runs today, while his whiz-bang fridge is a source of constant trouble. My Amana freezes up occasionally causing me to get out the hairdryer and towels to mop up the floor.

You didn't really think it would bee built HERE do you ? Glad Mark took care of the problems that came with it at least it had nothing to do with the mechanics ! You look good and Happy on your new piece of equipment ! Very Happy

Just came in from mowing about an acre with the thing. Rides like my fathers old Model T. but steers like your grandfathers Cadillac. Plows through 16/18" grass with no problem. Grass that would stall my zero-turn JD. I think I'm going to like it.

Thats what i am talking about , I got that problem in my field now waste high grass , the Farmall 140 is working on a complete blown head gasket so the bush hogging will take a while so i can get it down to use the Scag . It would do it but at 50-80$ a belt and other parts are HIGH !! I think not and also something is wrong with the charging system Sad

Just sold my bush hog Eric on Facebook (Mark, I don't do Facebook.) I listed it on Craigslist but never got a bite. Mark's Facebook ad got several inquiries and it sold within three days for $900 vice my asking $995. New they go for around $2300

With the new JD, I didn't need it anymore.

I bet that thing is/was Load from the look of the muffler on that Briggs. Is your JD a 49 HP you said Diesel right ?

..... yea.. you look like the "Master Greens-keeper" behind the wheel Robert!! How many acres of lawn are there? I would guess the cutting-width to be 55-58 inches? Is there an auxillary-PTO for running attachments; brush-bar.. sweeper.. taffy-puller?

I have six acres roddie, mow four and maintain one (occasional run-through). House and garage sits on the rest. Yes, PTO and hydraulic lift for implements.

60" deck. Set at the highest setting it was still cutting to low. Called the dealer and he sent someone right out to fix it. Sets the blades at certain points. Much better now.

Found it in my great grandfathers sketching box. He was a math professor at the University of New Hampshire but he also was a gifted artist doing pencil drawing of birds on small cards. Neither skills passed down to me.

I have a few more tucked away in tool boxes, mostly post 1960 stuff. Prior to that people were either to poor to have change in cars or I spent it when found.

Didn't find any change in the JD. Smile

Oh boy, Bob. I got a combination rush, misty, teary, warm feeling looking at the
sketch box. That may be from your granddad's salad days. What a beautiful
family relic.
The finds from used cars, should have a room in the Smithsonian.

Now I can't find those sketches, got to be about 25 of them, may have given them to Mark for safe keeping.

Weird affliction of mine, there is an old cigarette in with the key holder and chap-stick. The rusty self tapper screws in with the Corvettes coins held on the VIN number tag. 00020. Replaced them with stainless steel.

I'll be darned. Found a picture:

Box contents - West Virginia stamps, sand dollar that my Dad found in Florida and marked 6/6/66. Cigar - my grandson's birth, thermometer from something my oldest daughter gave me while in the "New Life" program. Fountain pens that my Mother used, pearl handled dipping ink pen in velvet case that my great grandfather used. Other stuff. Your can just see the pencil that he used on those sketches right between the top two fountain pens. Had a steel top.

Very nice to keep the family treasures Bob, but hanging on to other people's junk you find in used cars? I absolutely hate having to remove seats and centre consoles in customers' cars. Coins and old golf tees I can handle, but I often come across "organic" material, often in the form of McDonalds fries, old sticky candy, or even dead rodents.

If I do come across anything of value, it always goes back to the customer, usually much to their surprise.

We never let our kids eat in the car, but some people obviously don't care because the amount of food residue is sickening in some cars. I had to remove the rubber floor mat from a Toyota van once, only to discover the year-old remains of a tub of chocolate ice cream which had been abandoned behind the driver's seat. Not nice!!

The old dip pin brings back memories of being a Kid and playing up stairs found a couple of these and one with a bladder it was cool , got some ink (dad bought) and did some drawing ! I may still have it somewhere ? Yea Rod , i worked on a few cars with undesirable stuff in them from people living in them ( Have been know to NOT GOING TO WORK ON THAT!) lol!

How about snake skins. Found three in my '77 MG two in the cockpit, one in the engine compartment. Mice too. Heater plenum and tubes. Sucked one of the little critters out. Freeze dried.
