Mad Merco parts

Post  Coxfledgling Thu Jul 01, 2021 12:20 pm

Anyone over there, or world wide from r that matter, do merco spares.

I need a new spray bar and needle for a merco 35 glow motor.

It has a deflector type piston, plain main hearing and 2 needle RC carb.

I can post some pictures if needed.

Help greatly appreciated.

It came out of an autogyro, twin rotor.

The spray bar and needle were bent.

Thanks, rich.

Not sure where “over there” is from where you are, but MECOA indicates they have slim pickings and to give them a call. They may not ship internationally.

Mad Merco

Post  Coxfledgling Thu Jul 01, 2021 10:27 pm

I am from and live in Wales, UK, just 5 miles west of snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales. It has a rack and pinion steam railway from Llanbedr and has a pub at the top !

I know of mecoa which has Cox parts that I need but is difficult to get stuff from. I will check them out again to see if an order can be made to include a merco 35 RC carb spray bar complete.

Thanks for the reply.

Hi Rich,

I know this doesnt fix your merco problem but http://www.exmodelengines.com/ and https://coxengines.ca/ are both great to deal with. I am on the other side of the pond to them and never had a problem. Highly recommend them for all of the Cox needs. Sorry I dont know anything about the merco engines, and the mecoa web page puts me off from ever wanting to try and deal with them!! lol! Maybe Im being unfair to Mecoa as I havent tried them, but the front web page is too much for me. HaHa

Good luck getting the parts you need.

MECOA do things "differently", but I have generally had good experience with them. I've put in numerous orders over the years and never had one go poorly. For some reason they don't ship overseas from their eBay store. They also seem to show little interest in communicating with customers.

Mind you, I haven't used them since they demanded high cost fully insured shipping overseas. Last time I added it up the shipping was more than the order.

I personally would forego MECOA. What version Merco do you have? Red head, black head, or natural finish head? Knowing the I.D. of the case is equally important. More than likely, it would be easier to locate a Perry carb . Perry offers many carbs for various manufacturers and more than likely has the carb for your engine. When all said and done, it would probably be cheaper than using MECOA. You would probably also be able to send a e-mail and get a response. Good luck doing so with MECOA.

Mad Merco

Post  Coxfledgling Fri Jul 02, 2021 11:54 pm

Thanks for the replies ...

Yes Matt at exengines is great isn't he, I am sure he is finding parenthood equally as great but sleepless nights can add up.

Visited Cox international many times but they don't have the specific parts I require, but will check both out again as the parts I need may now be in stock.

Mecoa, mmmmm, they have some of the parts I require but are difficult to deal with, problems with UK deliveries and tax.

I am sure they are good for the American domestic market but there is a big wide world out there.

Brexit has not helped.

The merco 35 is a black head, or at least I think it is as the head was black.

Interesting about internal diameter of crank case ?

Ken, might you have any parts lists and/or exploded views, or know where I might find such information ?

The 35 crank has splines for the prop driver hub, but the hub has a taper along with the split taper collet ?

That's a C/L NVA.  Coxfledgling is looking for the R/C carb version I believe.

Not to jump fully to MECOA's defence as I agree that their business model seems to be flawed, but at least they have stuff you need and can't get anywhere else.  At least they're still in business.  I'm all for encouraging those who are trying to keep our hobby alive.
For all their faults, it wouldn't be so good if another business supplying our hobby went under.  Some in the USA don't seem to realise that you have it better than any other country in the world when it come to availability and ease of sourcing things that we like to play with.  All your other engine manufacturers are pretty well gone and everyone poo-hoos the soul surviving one!  Maybe they'd improve if a few more of us supported their last-ditch efforts.

Just my Two Cents worth.

Mad Merco

Post  Coxfledgling Sun Jul 04, 2021 2:09 pm

Thanks for the replies and the heads up nva on eBay.

A cl spray bar but I think I bought a spray bar from him ( Ipswich, UK ) for a DC sabre, which works a treat.

Will search out some brass and thread merco used and try and repair the one I have.

From memory the Merco NVA thread is 1/8" Whitworth-so the appropriate taps and dies should be readily available where you are, in the UK.

Mad Merco parts

Post  Coxfledgling Fri Jul 23, 2021 12:31 am

Thanks Chris, I managed to get the parts needed which arrived yesterday. I may even hunt down the aero fins to convert the 61 marine to aero at the same place.

Thanks for all the replies guys, great help and much appreciated.
