Sky Ranger Helicopter Rotor Blades Empty Sky Ranger Helicopter Rotor Blades

Post  smcmanus Fri Nov 12, 2021 2:55 pm

I have another old toy in need of help. One rotor blade is broken.
My question is: Can I replace the old straight rotor blades with the newer style dropped tip style blades?
They are about the same size length, and the chord is slightly longer on the newer blades.
Thanks
Steve

I checked mine and they all are the "dropped tip" version, except for the 020 powered SkyCopter. The SkyCopter has a "thiner" root and is about the same overall length as the dropped tip ones. I think if you replaced them in a set of four to maintain balance it should be fine.

Here is a picture comparison between the older straight blades and the newer dropped tip blades.  The new ones snap right in place and see no reason why they won't work.Sky Ranger Helicopter Rotor Blades Img_3512

Sky Ranger Helicopter Rotor Blades Empty just 2 more questions....

Post  smcmanus Thu Nov 18, 2021 12:43 pm

The needle valve stem is in contact with the rotor blade grip spring. Is this correct?
Where can I get the little snap clip that acts as the Jesus nut on the bottom of the rotor mast?

Sky Ranger Helicopter Rotor Blades Empty Just one more thing...

Post  smcmanus Thu Nov 18, 2021 1:51 pm

I was looking at my other Cox copters and noticed that only this Sky Ranger had this integral tank type engine. The engine is centered in the rotor system which makes the whole rotor system noticeably out of balance. Looking at internet pictures, almost all Cox copters use an offset mount and "postage stamp" type engine.
Is this the correct engine for the Sky Ranger?
Thanks

Yup, the “Sky Ranger” was a tanked Bee engine.
Go to the instructions sheets; short cut  : https://60d46b49-a-62cb3a1a-s-sites.googlegroups.com/site/coxengineid/Cox%20Attack%20Cobra%20owners%20manual.pdf?attachauth=ANoY7cp9uKYiTSanVyXX4sazVkVqMojJXBlQgg33e7Gp5tvtZtHLgzvrceFJKCVZ4GmDEvibw7g_JlRHdFJkomt8M-jzWxjW52fXSrWjpTxXQm65XGEpzkAGLZ3eh8CaP-FlPpvSJbi-Wp9MPZpFwzNLcx8Brt0bYbipFAvmd4cTek_JQn6YHmayU4sgtD8jWnqG9SYnW1VPUNKsGG3n7WnRabFXVHXnkPjvA8hSdZjZ9c8NImxxroo%3D&attredirects=0&d=1

You will have to do some bending to get the alignment needed for proper balance and flight. I don’t recall having  any with the NV so close to the wire.

This guy has had this on CL for over a year....don’t know when he’ll realize that no one will pay his asking price!!  Yeah, note even his NV is close to the wire!!

I would try  Ace Hardware, Home depo or even Meanards.
