Pretty Bee 83a04e10

About three years ago I wished I hadn’t gotten rid of most of my model airplane stuff about ten years previous…. I didn’t have any gas engines at the time so I ordered this Bee from the bay …. Very nicely polished and anodized parts…Came with a nice little stand…. To nice to run actually…I don’t know who was doing these but have not seen any for sale lately….

I was telling my son about it and how I was considering getting back into gas powered flying…. A few weeks later he brought me a box labeled Dad’s gas engines…. It was my dozen or so 1/2 A’s…. He told me he had saved just those and gave them back to me…He’s got a lot of memories tied up in those too as a little kid…. Of course I was glad to get them back!! Some I’ve had since I was a kid…. So the next Christmas I gave him the Pretty Bee as a gift…It’s on his desk at work as an ornament Very Happy

What a sweet surprise to see your engines you thought were lost for good! A nice foresight from your son to preserve those childhood gems of yours.

Very nice gift, Robert, and congrats on receiving back your engines.

The 1960's vintage Babe Bee my found in a field in Gallup NM 25 years ago as a teen that I cleaned up and entered in the engine of the month 2 months ago, plan to return that to my son.

Love the blue, might have passed though David's hands at one time.

Do you have a picture of the engines? New is nice, but nothing excites me more in this particular world than crusty old used and enjoyed engines.

Thank you the kind replies gentlemen …. Appreciated Very Happy

Yes, I still have a photo of those I got back, They weren’t terribly crusty but on the verge of being castor locked….   Although I do enjoy watching a good rescue on the CEF back to running condition!!!

Pretty Bee 521e9b10

I’ll share what I remember about them…. Some I have forgot…

The four Bees and Horseshoe were probably from broken rtf’s that I got for Christmas as a kid or a birthday ….Mom knew I loved those things…. Sure miss her….I used them over the years in various FF and CL projects….One of them went on a Goldberg 1/2 A Blazer I built when I was about 15…. Knew nothing about trimming FF but dumb luck it flew great…. We chased it many times thru a friend’s Dads cotton field…

The Wasp on top middle has a broken piston, Was given to me by a Co-worker in the late 70’s….The pull start I don’t remember, probably was given to me…. If people know you like models sometimes they just bring you stuff…

The Norvel on the bottom served in an Ace Grasshopper then later Ace Simple Series Mustang… That was quite a pistol! That was about ‘96 or so….

The OK Cub .039…on top right was one of the first I bought right after I got the collection back, Just thought it was a cool little engine… The OK .049 I bought when Herkimer was advertising them again in the model mags in the 90’s…

The PeeWee .020 and a Goldberg Ranger 30 Mom bought for me at the little local hobby shop we had at the time…. Again dumb luck with me and FF… It flew great!.., So more has to be better so;

The TeeDee .020 I got in ‘76 … Got it and a Midwest Sniffer at the same time from America’s Hobby Center…. Big mistake.. Way too much power…. One big beautiful loop and was it !!!

Also got back in the box enough parts to mostly build a couple more Bees and PeeWees…. I’ve since added three or four more to the collection but I love the originals…,

Goodness Robert, those look absolutely beautiful. You must have stored them right, I used an old sock for many of mine. The .020 TD is stunning. I don't have one. A treasure trove to be sure.

Thanks Bob, I guess they were put up half way OK… Wrapped in cloth or in a plastic bag…. They just spent a few years in a hot attic…. Hopefully they will all get a chance at some kind of job to do!
