Does anyone know if parts or even engines can still be had via the nvengines website or the email I've seen referenced.
 Klondike17 at Juno ?

Trying to locate muffler spring for a .061 bigmig. Would like to acquire a . 074 with a throttle too if possible.

Thanks.

But has anyone successfully ordered from there? I had registered an account but it now seems to be gone.

Not wanting to discourage you, but years ago I bought a sh......tty 051 Big Mig RC there , as new, with the famous revlite cylinder lining, all the same with practically zero compression, and when I referred to them for warranty, they directed me to their factory in St Petersburg (not Florida, but Russia) to an address that Google Maps did not find.

Just a section of my correspondence with Dimitry at Klondike 17:

Hi Dmitry,
>>
>>
>>
>>sorry for bothering you, but my concerns are still there:
>>
>>
>>
>>1.      As I wrote you on April 8th (see text highlighted in red in the
thread of emails below), YES, the engine now has only 1 shim under the head, and the performance is still very poor. (Note, that removal of a shim will change the compression ratio and help only a healthy engine having good compression capabilities to produce more power,, but the fact that in my engine the piston-to-cylinder fitting is poor and there is a free blow-by between them will not be changed.
>>
>>2.      The Hoshi Mi Na street (or any similar transcription of Ho Chi
Min) in St Petersburg cannot be found by Google Earth. Without the location found I cannot ask any of our travellers to hand-deliver the engine. Do you have a telephone number of the factory for me to find out what postal address alternatives they have? I am afraid if I courier the engine it will simply be returned because of unknown address.

Finally he gave me  US phone number so I gave up...

I doubt that with the general model business declining, the quality of service by that webpage is getting better, but this is only my negative experience...others are more forgiving with the NV brand.

That's kind of the vibe I got from the site and some of the other experiences I have seen posted.

Ideally I'd like to just find a muffler spring for the .061 I have but haven't seen much around for available parts from a reliable source.

Bend one up out of Music wire? It has simple bends so it shouldn't be too difficult.

I saw this post and I wanted to comment on it but I didn't have the time. I've had many dealings with NV engines. All of them positive and I will say I receive immediate responses from Alex. Alex posted in regards to the return of the new company NV. Norvel went offline mid 2004. There was quite a gap between the now defunct company until NV returned. He offered up his e-mail address on another forum and I've retained it ever since. There's been years in between my contacts with him but he always returns my e-mails and informs me what to do.

2 weeks ago after seeing this post, I contacted Alex and once again, he returned my e-mail within the hour. He explained to me over the e-mail that one must be registered to order. I was a registered member but somehow that information was no longer retained and I was reset. I had a .074 that fell victim to a heavy handed electric starter user. The rod was bent badly and I ordered a new piston cylinder and other items. They arrived today. Your not going to receive the parts ANYWHERE else. They're practically non existent due to the fact that the engine costs back in the 90's were around $30 for .061's and .049's. Aside from parts that broke such as needle valve assemblies, needles and plugs, the cost of the major parts were impractical.

I remember back in the 90 s you could bundle a house of balsa kit and a norvel .061 for around $60-$65 or a kit and a .074 for about $65-$70. . Wish I would have know. I would have stocked up .

Ken, thanks for giving us the heads up that NVEngines.com is back in business and parts are still available. I looked at their current prices particularly the C/L .40 Schneurle, seems like it would be a good engine for the large C/L jobs. This is good especially with the current embargo of buying directly from Russia by the administration, which in a way I am glad I did not buy a Ural motorcycle.

I remember a Cox Pee Wee for less than $5 and a Top Flite 27-in. R/C Schoolboy (Ken Willard design) for $4.50 from Hobby Shack in the early 1970's.

Back then we didn't think of hoarding.

Was impressed with Hobby Shack. Ordered an OS Pet .06 non-throttled for my Goldberg 37-in. R/C single channel Jr. Falcon, for more power than a Golden Bee. They were out of stock (permanently), so they substituted an OS Max .10R/C at no added charge. That made my T/F single channel 39-in. Schoolmaster w/aux. throttle a super sport performer. (With Golden Bee it flies like a trainer.)

(Ken Willard later mentioned in a Sunday Flier article about his dread for clowns overpowering his Schoolmaster with a .10 (before Schneurles).)

Well, I was that clown! Very Happy lol!

Yup, know the feeling. For a long while, had a dozen engines mostly Coxes. Then retirement, it grew to over 70 engines of all types. Doh!

I'm not the worst hoarder, but not the best either. lol! I Love This Forum!

I purchased many of the .049's from Norvel . I also had the AME brand Aero .049's. Many Stels and VA's. For me, it was practical as I was using them for 1/2A combat. The problem occurred when everyone started to buy ball bearing .049's. To be competitive without a ball bearing engine, it required one to have .061's. I still have many .049 examples new in the box. When Norvel went defunct, the AP engines came to fruition through Hobby People for under $40. I tried and tried to make them work for 1/2A combat but they didn't offer reliability and performance like the Norvel's did.

Ken, I don't have experience with the AP half-A's like you do, appears their intent at best was for sport use. By the time I wanted to try one, they were sold out completely.

Seen them new in the box on EBay, but sellers seem to want too much for them. I rather have a Norvel.

Had an earlier AME .049 with short venturi for a pressurized fuel system, but gave it to Ron @Cribbs74 as he does pressure and I don't, he could put it to better use.

I tested the AP .061 on the bench with props up to APC 6x4 seemed ok making more power than a TD .051
Flew it with a pipe just to enjoy the engine and to ultimately compare it to the Norvel with the same pipe.
Ran ok but long term use was never sought - next weekend I was out trying the Norvel .061 AME on the plane.

Here are the results, no mods to the engine was a treat to hear 1/2A sport pipe use.

Jun 28, 2015
Skorch Flying - AP .061 - Profi 1/2A Tuned Pipe
Best pass noted so far 24,793 rpm APC 4.5x4 / 94mph prop pitch speed
Tuned pipe length set for 25k unloaded (9.8in) from center of the convergent
cone to the piston face. APC 4.1x4.1E would be better. 5ch plane 11.8oz less fuel.
Static peak 22,609 rpm / .136hp -102w / 9.3 oz thrust / 86 mph pitch speed.

As I recall it was Fitz fuel 20% castor 24% nitro.
1oz fuel tank.

Here is the Norvel .061 same fuel.

Aug 11, 2015
.061 AME Norvel with a Profi .8cc Tuned Pipe
Non SPI version with 150 deg exhaust timing
APC 4.2x4 2oz of bench running prior to first flight
In the hand best peak 24.8k / 96F breezy hot day!
108 mph best level pass 28.6k from down wind.
12oz all up weight 5ch plane with flaps / rudder
88sq. in 28in span, later flew 122mph with a 4x5N.
Thin ply rolled fuselage with solid balsa airfoiled

I turned a adapter to fit the case but on the I.D. I tapped it with a 1/4-32 to use a TD needle valve assembly. I drilled out the venturi to the max which is 5/32". One could go larger but you break into the jet holes. During break in, my engine took out the stock AP plug which I feel is a good plug. I purchased another and took out that plug. I added two more head gaskets and tried yet another and once again plug was destroyed. I switched to the Nelson head adapter and added yet another 3 head shims. While I was able to achieve continuous runs, it kept taking out the plug. The crank was wobbling a fair amount in the case which concerned me so I installed a new bushing in the case. Even after all that, I took out more plugs than what the engine cost me.
