Just added an OK Cub .14 to my list, thanks to Mitch for the trade. I think the engine is little run, it's very clean and I had to fiddle with the NV quite a bit to first get it started.
Now that it's had a bit of running it's starting very easily and runs very well indeed.

Latest Cub! Cub_1415

Very nice sport engine, haven't decided what to fly it in yet.

I now have Cubs in .049A, .049B, .074 .099 and .14, but you could collect Cub variants for ever! One day I may get some of the other sizes, .024, .19, .29, and .35 but these tend to fetch BIG money, so it won't be anytime soon!

Unfortunately not at the moment, unimportant things like holidays causing lack of modelling cash!

Cub needles are a pain in the butt, it's open about 21/2 turns, slightest touch goes from too rich to too lean!
It's running just on 10,000 rpm on an 8 x 6 and straight fuel in the picture, they aint racing engines!

Maybe you could try a silicone tubing seal.

No, the problem is the actual design of the Cub NVA, the needle itself is very short, and has hardly any taper to it, consequently the needle is hyper-sensitive, it's not so bad in the larger engines (.099 / .14 etc) but it makes the little .049s absolute b****ds to start and keep running. Texas Timers do a replacement NVA which is much better, having a proper needle and a finer thread, however, buying those and paying the shipping over here makes them an expensive fix! I have a couple of Cubs which I've fitted with them and they are much better.

That is odd, as it wasn't fast enough to stop the prop.

Does the piston move slower than the prop? Huh...

it must be moving slower than the prop, but then again the motor is not geared?

I think that the answer is that the piston is moving so fast across a small distance (the exhaust port) that it does not register on the camera, only the light coming from the other side (between piston strokes) registers.
