Change of plan, My Dad gave me a copy of the Miss America 1960 plan. Designed and drawn by Joe Wagner, last night.
Its fantastic, and guess what the plan shows it Cox 020 powered. I've got to build one. I think I may build 2 fuz's One Cox powered freeflight, and one electric RC. Or maybe make the motor instalation moduler so I can just swap.

Ebz if you've got a pee wee laying around why not get yourself
A Rainbow or similar from the FMK models site?
The kits are fantastic value at just over a score, have superb laser
Cut everything and even a 10 thumbed idiot like me can throw
One together in 2 evenings. If you ordered one Monday you'd be
Flying it on our coming 4 day weekend.
It would be a gentle re entry into the world of glue and wood.
They are tough as well. Both me and Nitro have done our best to
Destroy ours but they keep coming back for more.
I've even given the plans to one of the guys who flys 'proper'
RC at my club. They all thought I was crackers when I turned up
With these 'daft' little things but I think the fact that I giggle like a
Schoolgirl every time I fly one has become infectious.

I have just looked at the fmk website, very impressive. Sadly I'm more of a SAM kind of guy. And like to build from vintage plans

Thats The Miss America plan I've got. The plan showes an 020. But that ad says 020 or 049. As my 020 in a model I think I'll use the first Babe Bee I had as schoolboy. Late 60s, that will be kinda neat.

Oh, OK. I noticed (after posting it) that the Ad said it was designed by Bill Winter (a long-time Editor of Model Airplane News).

Here's a look at the original Miss America 1960's version (I built one of these about 50 years ago) and the later sheet version --- I think this may be the one Kim posted the ad for.
You may not be able to read it, but the Joe Wagner version shows a 7x2 prop on the .020. Also notice the Wagner version is free flight while the later sheet version has a rubber powered escapement. The free flight version has the characteristic forward placement for the LG and an interesting spring shock absorber.

Top choice, never built it but had a picture on my workshop
wall for years. It said all there was to say about the golden
age of US modelling, which we couldn't entirely understand
but envied more than somewhat.
What year? always thought it was early post war.
Couldn't see the peewee on my picture of course but
the peewee dates it to the 60's

I have to say, seeing the Cox Miss America P51 Wow. I have a House of Balsa 1/2A P51 kit in my attic. if I could do the paint job justice what a subject. I managed to get a second canopy so I turn my kit into a F82. If I can ever work out how to post pics, I'll post some.

OK...some of this is starting to make sense now! I'm pretty sure that in one of my old mags, there's a photo of the original "Miss America" being donated to the Smithsonian or some such museum, with a section of it's upper wing covering removed to show the rib-work inside. I'll try to watch for it. Problem is that airplane names can be recycled across various models over the decades, and my packed memory can't always sort them out !!!!
At any rate, this will be one cute puppy when it flys !!

Here's a couple of pics to get your build juices flowing! Neither are mine, but they sure look nice.
I believe the top pic is the original 7' version with big plump Trexlers. The bottom pic looks to be the smaller 42" plane, but I can't verify what engine is used. It also appears to have foam wheels.

Change of plan again. Having dicovered the Cox engine forum I've been playing with my Cox engines. I have now obtained a Killer Bee crank and a pusher crankcase. I now plan to convert my Sure Start 0.49 into a pusher diesel. Because I need to build a model requiring a pusher motor, I've decided to build a Vampie. A freeflight sport model designed in the early 60s.
Very loosely based on the DH Vampire. well it has 2 booms. It has a solid balsa wing, and shouldn't take long. I then need to convert another of my Cox engines to a diesel, possibly a TeeDee 0.49. I will then build the Miss America.
I'll keep you posted.

I'm good at swiching my workshop is testiment to that.
