(Wanted) Fox .35

I want to build a full size bird. So I am in the market for a Fox .35

If you have one for a reasonable price let me know.

I just finished a Ringmater S-1 and going to use OS Max .35S. Nicer enguine than Fox .35. Fox .35's are fine if broken in right. Very useable but I like OS engines better. What are you building ?? Just a little Fox info the 40th. anniver. version was best they made, others are fine but special attension went into these. Good point of Fox is that they have been made since 1948. No engine has been around that long in production, and never was out of production. cheers

when it come to Fox .35's ....just say NO!!!!!! Unless you want to be 'old school' and tinker with the 2-4-2

What model you building? The FP/LA O.S. Max engines are one of the best...and cheep.

Bet you can't fly a Fox .35 powered airplane in your backyard. Successfully that is. Very Happy

I'm pleased with you progression as a "ukie" pilot. Class C aircaft are an awfully lot of fun to fly on sixty foot lines.

The reason I am wanting Fox is because I have heard so many good things about them. Also Fox manufacturing resides in my Wife's hometown.

I had the opportunity to see one in action a few days ago and even though it was a crusty little bugger it ran excellent and it only took a couple seconds to set the NVA up correctly for the 4-2-4 break.

So yeah, I guess it's a nostalgia thing, but an S-1 with a .35 on it sounds pretty cool!

The person I bought mine from said he had several to sell. I got a good deal too. Two engines. One had 30 flights. The other was hand fitted by Duke Fox. He wanted $55 for both of them. Me and my father split the deal. He got the newer one. I got the one fitted by Duke. I will ask him if he has more to sell. They dug through their engines to give me the best ones they had. We shared a rather large number of emails. I am sure they still have some runners. Nice guy.

Yeah sure Rolla, if you wouldn't mind asking when you get the time. Ken may be helping me out, but all engines like to be "paired"

Well, call me old school but I can attribute a entire wall of first and second place wins due to the Fox.35. American made and less than $50 brand new with engine in trade. Honestly, where are you going to find it any cheaper than that. The Os Fp's are no longer made so a .35 isn't an option other than Ebay. The Fp .40's take a bit of finesse as well due to the engine wanting to run away requiring head shims and various toying around with venturi sizes and also tongue muffler. The Fox after a bit of break in is a bolt on ready to go item. True, not precisely machined, but lots of fun and easy. When I order from Fox, I see parts in a day or two. Others will claim the LA .25 is the modern replacement for the Fox.35, I'd like to see one of those swinging a 10x6 with authority. With a bit of understanding, it is truly one of the simplest engines to run. Nothing hangs on the nose of a Ringmaster better than a purdy Fox .35 that;s been well blackened up. Ken

I'd better jump in here an remind you that there were other great .35 engines like "Green head" Torpedo's and Veco's which are still produced with parts availabe.

Both were a formidable rival for the Fox.

lol, my wall is full of plaques from not running Foxes!!!!

Don't get me wrong I love the 2-4-2, but for a beginner the engine should be the last thing he needs to worry about. I've also spent a lot of time trying to set up a FP/LA to run like a Fox (i.e. porting, Silver Fox FP) only no outside burps! The best set-up I've found is low pitch APC prop launched at a slightly rich two cycle, surf Stuka Stunt or any Stunt fourm.

The 25 La-S is another good engine. We got one on sale and tried it out. Took very little break in time. Flew a Sig Skyray very nicely. It would do whatever I wanted it to. Ours seemed to be capable of doing a break. It usually would just lean out in a loop. Then again, we tend to tune to half a tank so the engine would lean out a bit as fuel was used up. Still runs great. I would prefer a Fox for the sound and the sake of nostalgia.

Mark, your making me laugh. You remind me of my flying friend Dennis WHO HATES THEM. I must say, the OS engine line is superb, don't get me wrong and I do use them. I'm still a Fox lover and the real reason I use it is the weight. At 7 oz's other than a Brodak .40 what other engine is that light? I do like the MAX-S .35 with the exception that the conrod wears out and the wrist pin ends chew through the cylinder walls but hey they're cheap. I actually like the MAX-S .30, I just wish it had a little more umphh. Hard to believe it comes from the loins of the .35 as the .35 does run strong. The Fp's are good and I'm a fan of the .25's . I do favor the FP.40's and one of my club members has quite the engine set up for running Fp .40's . However, the Fox.35 has a place in my heart and I enjoy it. Ken

Seriously though I saw Ken's .35 run and it was impressive. True I still fit into the newb realm, but I have to pick an engine sometime. I will probably try others and compare over time. I will more than likely build a Ringmaster for it or maybe a Yak-9

Or........ I have a line on a original CG Shoestring Stunter and a Cosmic Wind.

My vintage CL trophies were donated to the Goodwill many years ago when I entered graduate school. I was married, had a career, lived in an apartment and our first child was on the way. Flying had been put on "hold" until it returned about ten years ago.

Space was, as it is today, at a premium for me and my hobby interests. No one would believe want I have crammed into a 10'X10' den! On the door I have posted a "No Girls Allowed" sign which gives me refuge in "stressful" times. Wink

Mr. Cook is correct in saying they do the trade in. You are capable of sending in any engine (running condition or not) and you get a new Fox 35 for $50. We called to verify they will do a trade in and also asked what they do with all the engines they recieve. They apparently scrap the engines. Which is why it does not need to be in running condition.

Does it stunt?

Or is it good for racing only?

Ron, it does both. The only changes he makes is adding a different tank, and prop for racing as 2 oz. plastic tanks are required and nose weight. The plane is really a good stunter as well. A good wind flying airplane. Ken

Like I said before I don't dislike Foxes, I just think there are better choices for a beginner. I DO love the 2-4-2 of a Fox or any engine for that matter and personally that's the set-up I used to run. I had spent a lot of time learning how to rework .40FP-.46LA one of best engines was a .40FP reworked by Lou Wollard (aka Silver Fox) but the quickest, cheapest and most consistent set-up is to use a 11.75"x4" APC cut down to 11.25 and run it pretty much like a R/C engine.

When does one cease being a beginner and become a novice or a junior? lol!

I can perform loops, wingovers, figure eights and inverted flight. I have a looooooong way to go, but I am far from my first flight. I know my limitations and tend to think before I act. Sure I have put a lot of planes into the ground, but I learn and move on.

Rest assured I won't be flying anything before I feel ready to do so.
