Vintage Crankcases
I wasn't aware until recently of the differences in the early tapered neck crankcases. Now I'm trying to determine what mine are and I'm not sure I can tell. They all seem to have the same taper but I don't know if it's the narrow or wide. One has no starter spring groove, two have a definite groove and one has a very slight groove (kind of hard to tell). The only one I can see inside to see the oiling channels is the NOS one and it has two, 6 and 12 o'clock. (I'm not feeling ambitious enough tonight to disassemble three engines to look for oil grooves.) So do I have narrow or wide taper cases? And does anyone know what era the NOS packaging is from?
