Sad Not a good day at the flying field!

Post  duke.johnson Sun Jun 16, 2013 10:06 pm

Well, today started so well.  The kids made me breakfast, went to church, the farmers market, the coffee store, and had lunch with the family.  Then we decided to all go flying and called a friend to meet us there.  I took my Cox Castor Oil Odyssey plane to get some time on it and broke the needle off in the backplate.   Hopefully I can get it out.  Everyone put up a nice first flight in front of me and all I needed to do is follow a good show.  I started out with a bad inside loop and the next ones I cleaned up.  After that I went inverted and that's when the trouble happened.  I gave it up instead of down to pull out of it.  I broke the tail feather off, ground the cockpit down, broke some ribs and the trailing edge, and worse of all broke the crankcase on my Fox .25.Mad

But other than that I had a good Father's Day.  Hope you guys did too.

Hey when you go out, you go out in style!

What vintage Fox .25 is it?  Older ones interchange with the .19 case I believe.

Sorry to hear it wasn't all roses.

Oh man, I hate it when that happens!

I'm making a new wing for a .15 size plane that I punched in from my first attempt at inverted. I broke the needle off of an O.S. .15 R/C engine that I scratch-built an airplane around. This time, it will be lazy eights, longer and longer, until I get the hang of it. A friend gave me a new carb to replace the one I screwed up. Should be ready for this Tuesday Night Flights, at the circles. I'm putting the .051 back on the Gee Bee for then, also, because people want to see it fly, too. So, it is removed from Contest duty for a short time. This is your opportunity to catch up to my flight time! I'll still win, though! You have no chance! Give up while you're young! You'll regret your feeble attempt at matching me in the Contest! I could go on and on, but you get the idea. Good luck!

Seriously, it's fun putting in time at the field, working to get decent run-times with the engine. Everybody is curious about it. The .051 came off of the Stik becase I spotted a tiny crack in the red, plastic carb body, and disassembled it to apply JB Weld, to see if that will fix it. So, it's on the Gee Bee for testing, post reassembly. Sometime, I will have to hunt-down a new body for it, because this just isn't right!

Ron
It's the old on with the high and low speed carb with the flat bottom bolt on carb. I really liked the engine and hated the carb. I locked the carb open with the set screw but the needle I need to adjust all the time was on the bottom and hard to get to. I had called Fox and never could find the ventui and NVA for it.  I guess I don't need to worry about it now.  I tried to post a picture, but can't get it to upload from here.

Anyone know the right needle for the for the black production backplate that I broke in my contest needle?

Ron
BTW: I have your BRM drawing ready to mail today.
