Nice looking planes. My son will be loving the Bi-Slob!

The gentleman who gave me the planes was very generous. He has gone electric and did not have a need for them anymore.

I noticed the Bi-Slob hanging from the rafters and I asked him if he enjoyed flying it. He said "no it's boring" and handed it to me. He is deep into PA so I imagine it doesn't excite him anymore.

I was super excited, but I was stressed as I had to leave 6 planes in my truck during worship and then again to eat dinner.

I like the all red one - can't think why! The fuller bodied aeroplane always appeals to me over the slab sided jobbies.

They look beautiful! Until you hit the ground... Then you'll wish you had a profile.

The invitation is always open Rusty. The tail on the Cardinal is 22" I have 1/2A wings that size  

All the CL guys I have run in to have been overly generous. They also have a plethora of items. Every time when I am invited into workshops I am blown away with all the things these guys have. Not to mention the planes on the build boards.

i grew up with profiles, my first big planes were profiles, i always flew profiles...did i tell you how much i liked profiles?

i guess it's really what you're used to, they do look odd compared to a built up...i still have a Magnum kit with a built wing...one of these days.

Rusty, swing by and pick me-up too, since you got the wagon. I got a new gallon (8 years old) of fuel and I'll flip you a couple bucks for gas!!

Ron, full bodied planes fly tremendously better than profiles. The engine runs are generally better as well due to more solid engine crutch. Tank placements are usually pretty good with only minor adjustments and fuel feed is generally better due to the tank directly behind the engine.  Sometimes however it takes a bit of a drill to understand how to start a inverted engine. Many of my engines are inverted and requires two to start as I typically start the first start of the day by flipping it over and the other person starts it. It becomes incredibly easy to flood a inverted engine and this can not only make for hard starting, but it can ruin glow plugs. Once you learn the drill, it becomes as easy as starting any engine.


As for the Bi-Slob, they're truly a different animal and it really is a weird feeling when you fly one as you literally have very little line tension. This can cause problems if your not aware. They can roll in on you. Once again, after a little confidence, they're truly fun planes to fly. One thing to be cautious with though is to not let it fly out on the lines and jerk. This will leave you with a bellcrank and a set of lines in your hands while the rest is on the ground. I beefed up all of my Slobs with a full doubler on the inboard side as I've done this many of times when hammering them hard. Hanging them is fun, but watch that the tail doesn't hit the ground as it just shatters the fuse. Another weak spot is the spar on the lower wing, they typically break due to the gear coming up and shattering them. DO NOT FIX THESE. Leave them broke or don't install them at all as this will just shatter the rest of your wing if you make that repair. If you ever want to know if your Fox .35 is fully broken in, bolt it on a Bi-Slob. If it's sagging when hanging, it needs a bit of help.The APC 10x5 is an excellent choice with the Fox .35 on this plane. A 10x6 loads it too much and doesn't allow it to hang properly as the speeds become too fast.  This is my method as no plane places the engine in such a vertical for long periods of time. If my engine is starting to overheat it's back to the bench for a little lapping and polishing until it holds a full blown lean run. This is where the well blackened Fox's shine on the nose of a Bi-Slob.

One maneuver that comes to mind that looks so cool is the wingover with a Bi-Slob. You will never think it's going to do it. Shawn will let it go skyward straight up and it's doing it practically freeflight as the lines are just totally slack and it just gracefull goes over the top. One thing I found in regards to rudder offset, all of my stunt planes are set up with 0 deg offset while the Bi-Slob has several degrees. I found when the Slob rudder gets knocked off, it's very imperative to have it on as the plane will just do a lot of funny business. The ARF's set up the Slob with several degrees of engine  offset, I found this to hurt performance and it's not needed as the kit built version suggests it, but we found it works better without it. I pretty much assumed it would be an upside down starter. I have seen it done, but never did it myself. Thanks for the tips.

As to the Bi-Slob, it has an unreal amount of elevator deflection built into it. It can go 90 degrees in both directions. I assume that is way too much. The flaps seem to travel very little in comparison. What deflection/ratios do you use on yours?

BTW, this Slob has an Enya .29 in it. I will give it a go, but may put a Fox .35 in it.

Ron, the Slob indeed has some unusual and non typical practices. It can be enticed into the maneuvers although they're very rounded due to the wing stalling. I highly recommend it to those who would like to practice squares. It does those quite nicely and can be horsed around quickly to do them again. Loops are exceptional, but rather tight and opening them up takes a bit of work and steady hand controlling. The Slob does have very accentuated deflection though. I would fly it and see and I wouldn't change anything until you do. If you find the plane hunting up and down I would fine tune the control surfaces. This can be due to the flaps top and bottom not being matched properly and that can be adjusted by the pushrod that connects them. More important is making sure the elevator and flaps are in neutral.
