Horizontal Propeller For Landing

Sorry for the stupid question, but I was wondering the way to get the propeller to stop at a horizontal position while landing a plane without gear. I do have quite a bit of time before flying season, but wanted to know. I know there is a simple way to do it, but cannot remember. I have searched online and read that the propeller should be horizontal while at T.D.C., then another post as it was nearing T.D.C.. Thank you.

Don't over think it.

When the engine is static, coming up to TDC as in you just feel the compression starting lock the prop down.

Basically when the engine quits the prop will stop as it tries to go through another compression stroke.

Don't feel stupid, I did it wrong for over a year before I was shown how to do it properly.

You should do this for all planes landing gear or not, even trike gear, it will save help save props on a hard deadstick.

It's also a great way to balance out a non-balanced prop (side mount engine only) if plane seems to shake more then normal rotate prop 180, as this can also be an effective additional counter balance.

Rotate prop clockwise until you feel piston start to compress, loosen prop nut and readjust prop horizontal, slightly tighten and check, re-adjust if needed and retighten.

Is it not rather counter-clockwise i.e. the same direction the headwind will turn the prop after the engine stops?

Lol, I guess it would depend on how you looked at it. When looking at it from the front or face the prop rotation for a right hand prop is counterclockwise and I think that's the way most describe it.
But you're correct, if you're in the cockpit it would be clockwise. Likewise if the left front tire was flat on your car, that would be from the drivers (North American) perspective.

So lets just say you'd move prop the opposite of normal rotation up to the compression.
