New Plane for Flight Contest Empty New Plane for Flight Contest

Post  GUS THE I.A. Sun Mar 02, 2014 8:22 pm

A guy gave me these pieces from his crashed little, electric ARF, and thought that I could do something with them. Well, sure! Now it will become the airframe that I will campaign in the Flight Contest. This thing is pretty small, but has control surfaces large enough for 3D-type maneuvers. I need only to build a fuselage to attach these parts to, and I'll have a new ride for the TD .051 that I'm using to "Go for the Gold". It should be a zippy little do-dad, when it's flying: you know how light they build those ARFs! Very thin wing, too. I hope the covering is fuel-proof!New Plane for Flight Contest 100_1523 This is what happens when the weather is awful...I start finding stuff for "busy work". Not able to paint the Stunt-Stang until the weather gets better.

New Plane for Flight Contest 100_1523 .

Doug, You could always "play it safe" and mist a few light-coats of clear LustreKote on the parts. (that is.. when the weather gets better for painting...)

Just paint a dime sized spot of 35% on the bottom of the rudder and see how it acts after a few hours.

Certainly looks like you'll have a pocket rocket with that Tee Dee engine, Gus. Wouldn't be too hard to cobble a fuselage onto those wings with adequater room for clunk tank and radio gear. If you made the fuselage longer it could be a flying arrow.  Tired w/ Coffee Read Wink

My .02 would be to build up a profile fuselage with 1/4" and sheet the front, use pressure or plastic clunk, but remember the low temp plastic film is gonna get oil soaked into the edges and seems pretty quick.

Appx. what is the wing area?
