I finally received two engines I got from eBay: a Golden Bee + Black Widow Very Happy

I think it's one of the earliest Black Widow, with the rubber spinner, but I'm not sure... Can anyone confirm this?

I also got with it a tank+backplate which seems to come from a '50s Babe Bee... If somebody knows more about it Smile

Yes it is an early BW. And if you fly the Golden Bee with control line, the tank is on it upside down. The vent tubes will be in the way of the pickup tube's outboard position.

The extra backplate is from the 50's - no "Made in USA". And large head NV.

You are right about the Black widow. Is there a number on it? I think it should be 1.

Sometimes the 1 is stamped on the facing on the corner of one of the exhaust ports. Microflitedude has a cylinder with a #1 stamped on the barrel if the cylinder, but it does not have the deep BW ports. I'm not sure what's up with that.

I am 99% sure my #1 is a SuperBee cylinder, like you suggested when I first showed it to you.

If you have the cylinder off, you can confirm the Black Widow with a caliper by measuring the width between the deepest points of the opposing bypass ports. A BW will measure about .485" across and an ordinary dual bypass cylinder will be about .475" or slightly less. That's from my memory, I'll double check that tonight.

I didn't claim my calipers were certified by the international bureau of weights and measures. And I did post a disclaimer about my memory. But yeah, you get the Rusty stamp of approval. It IS a Black Widow. Very Happy

Yes, far right is the old narrow cylinder, I believe. The first one is like a Tee Dee #4 if it has the taper. The second is everything they sell now.

Btw, that's a really nice looking haul. I'd love to have a golden Bee. I'd put a hotter top end on it, but I do that to everything I've ever owned that had an engine. Rolling Eyes

I bought a pair of NIBs recently for a total of $62. Maybe that was the deal of the Century. They came with a 4oz Sullivan tank too. That was good for the test bench.

I used the smallest one to put my "original factory" parts, the biggest one is used for 6 boxes of "NIB" engine I have Smile

How did you get your hands on those boxes? My local hobby shop had 3 of those boxes flattened in their cardboard recycling bin but they refused to let me take them as "they get paid for the amount of cardboard the bring to the recycling center". They just couldn't give up a few boxes even when I offered to pay something for them...
